Might have not wanted to deal with an unknown dog, there's a number of possibilities, most quite benign.Any normal person with nothing to hide would have at least waved back don't ya think? My buddy said the man was walking and my buddy waved at him and it wasn't until he called the dog off the tree the man stopped and stood there. My buddy waved again and the man just stood there with his hands at his side. My buddy said we gotta go because we don't know what his intentions are and I for one don't like talking to strangers in the middle of the woods. If I bump into you fine but hunters don't go seek other hunters to talk to them.
Where I hunt it's not horribly unusual to run into a pack of doggers first thing in the AM or right at sunset, and I've found that 90% of the time I can let the dogs go past me if I'm downwind and not moving. most breeds don't see real well it seems....anyway, I wear a blaze orange t-shirt or sweater even when not required, so people usually pick me out quick enough. I've yet to have a bad interaction.
The only time I've ever had issues is when the dogs scent me, and usually they just come see I'm not interesting and go back to looking for pigs.
Honestly if I see another not-dog hunter who isn't actively stalking, or watching game, I'll usually go over and say hi, cause in all likelihood well be seeing each other again.
