Am I being too picky? Gunbroker issues.

I bought an 80% lower and a finished upper on gunbroker. It arrived today with a minor blemish on both pieces. I took pictures of the blemishes. I just contacted the seller, but I'm having second thoughts about it. The speckled spots on the upper are slightly raised above the surface, and the spot on the lower looks like it never got anodized, but it would be hidden by the pin when fully assembled. I'm fairly certain I will mar the finish worse than that when I try to finish the lower, but I'm still starting off with a product I'm not completely tickled with.

I do like the color though, and am excited about the idea of building the rifle. I will not disclose the name of the seller until we resolve the issue, and I will be transparent about the way that they handle it.

I'd keep the 80% lower since it may get a mark or two on it while you finish it, as you mention.

The upper? Well, if it was advertised as a blemished model I'd keep it. If it wasn't a blem, and I knew the finished gun was not going to be used with white museum gloves, I'd probably keep it.

Assuming everything else was mechanically solid, of course.

I think I would be a little ticked too if they came with some blems but they were never disclosed by the seller. I think I would at least contact them to see if they could replace it or comp you something for your troubles. If as you say you might be making some far worse marks on the upper and lower when you assemble them then I would say forget about it and move on to your build.

Your call.

If you look hard enough, you will find a flaw in many new firearms. A dealer should replace or let you return an item if your not happy. You would be out the cost of shipping. Unless its stated in the ad, all sales final or as is. Some dealers give a 3 day inspection, return policy. A private sale, good luck.

All of the dings and scratches my guns have were earned not inherited. I don't mind a minor cosmetic issues on a gun if I got it through use. Guns are tools and sporting goods after all. I would have to take issue with it if it was undisclosed in the auction.

A gun is a consumer item like any other, and I'd expect the finish to be correct unless it was noted as a blem.

The fact that both pieces arrived marred says much about the seller. I'd send them back, any visual defects should be caused by me, not there upon arrival.

If one piece had a blemish, I would write it off as oversight . But 2, I'm suspicious. I would be wondering if the selling bought them as blemished and now selling them as good finish. That's me and my thinking, though.

I wouldn't be happy with that small gouge near the pivot pin on the lower. I probably wouldn't send it back over it but I wouldn't be happy if it wasn't disclosed.

You take a pretty decent picture with your crappy cell phone.
First one looks like it got dinged at some point vs a flaw in the finish. Second one looks like a poorly done finishing job. Those spots come off with an expensive tool like a fingernail? Kind of even to be paint splash. Chances are the seller didn't notice either of 'em.

If you are going to screw with trying to return your stuff or somehow get some satisfaction from the seller, then you are crazy! It will cost you time money and effort. Stop buying stuff on Gunbroker.

personally, I wouldn't care. unless I paid a premium price, well above the going rate.

I would assume a lot of lowers and uppers being sold in this panic are blems.

The lower looks fine to me, as you noted that will be covered when done. A sharpy could fix it now anyway. The upper, on the other hand, not acceptable.

as stated if purchased at a premium I'd be upset, as a project and shooting rig, I'd be fine with that.

I'm keeping it. It's gonna be a working rig anyway so I made the call. I started cutting on it already and now I'm stuck either way...and I broke a stinkin bit off in it too.
