I have a SOG Spec Elite mini that I EDC. When I open it I tend to flip it a pinch with my thumb then whip it open. Am I doing damage to the knife in any way or its locking mechanism? what about long term??

Would really hate to damage such a fine blade that isnt even in production anymore.

Thanks.

That's not what they're intended for, but they should be designed for the vigorous flipping if they're smart.

Any well built folder should be able to handle that. That said I wouldn't do it a thousand times while watching tv. [emoji4]

I "Spydie drop" my Military on occasion, only during use when it's the best opening method at that time.

Was just curious this is my first knife I ever bought (and ive had hundreds) and is the best ive ever owned. Would hate to damage it, ill just use the thumb and avoid it. Thanks guys.

I wouldnt sweat it. Forcibly flicking it open by the stud is probably just as hard on it.

I've done the same thing with far cheaper blades and haven't had a problem. My current EDC folder is a $10 Coast I got at Home Depot a few years ago. Done the flip open wrist flick a thousand times and it still locks up tight.
