I ask because I lost my wallet yesterday I cancelled my credit cards and got a duplicate driver's license I notified the dept. of state here about the lose of my CCW permit I have another one inroute to me. I forgot to ask about carrying in the mean time and when I realized this and called back today at 5:30 they were closed I am going out tonight and will be bringing my browning hi power and hope I'am legal I would think I am as Iam still in the computer as having a carry permit and have a valid id on me. I will be home for a bit longer and awiat any replies on this before I go o ut if possible thanks.

Garbage. Rationally, "illegal possession of a handgun" occurs only if the handgun is stolen. I prefer the term "unlicensed carry." :)

Hopefully Fla. allows you to obtain duplicates. In Tn. they do-so each time I renew my CCW I get a duplicate at the same time and keep the copy in my safe for just such instances. You're probably violating some technicality til you get a new copy-better to be safe and get an extra copy this time!

tyme...

Not garbage.

In Oregon, as I was instructed in the county-offered class as well as private courses, not having your permit at hand is viewed as not having a permit at all. Therefore, if you're caught with a concealed handgun and your permit is at home/lost, you're subject to being charged with unlawful possession of a handgun...Class A misdemeanor. The actual Oregon laws do specify 'immediate possession of license".

As important as knowing the letter of the law in each state, one should also ask around to find out general attitudes toward the law. The county sheriff's dept. Firearms Division confirmed that here in Oregon, they're sticklers about this one--and this has been confirmed by other trusted sources.

As I understand it, in Florida, you DO NOT have to have the actual license on your person although it is always a good idea.

IIRC, states like Texas require you to have it if your are carrying.

It is important to note that all states are different. We should each know the rules/laws of our state before something like this comes up. If you lose your wallet, you probably will not be at home. Do you know how to get your gun home without your permit?

Good point. http://www.vastatepolice.com/ has the state police websites listed, dunno how many of those sites have the car gun law(s) listed, but I know NCSHP does. JIC packing.org is down:D
