I would like to mount a light on my Mossberg 590 so that I can operate it ambidextrously. I have the Magpul forend.

Has anyone here mounted a light at 6 o'clock on a shotgun? I am having a hard time picturing if it will work well or not. It seems like it may be awkward to operate at that location.

I suppose it depends on the type of mount you use. Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01G4KOHNA?psc=1 should work. Out of curiosity, why do you want ambidexterity? To make it easier to shoot with your weak hand, or do you foresee other people using the weapon? Just curious.

In case I need to fire the shotgun on my non-dominant side. I can think of a few situations where they may be necessary (injury, shooting around a barricade, etc).

The Surefire shotgun light fore end may fit the bill.

That tri-rail up front is exactly what I have. I chose to mount the light on the left hand side as I am left handed. It is easy for the index finger of my right hand to work it when holding the pump grip. However, if my left hand was on the pump grip, I think I could reach it with my thumb. Putting it on the bottom also works, but it may be a bit low. But with the tri-rail, you have 3 choices to see what works best for you.

There are also these, just one row of rail. I put the light on centered below the barrel, supposing I can find the light and its button in the dark by following the barrel with my hand.
