i was finally able to take my baby out to a range that isn't one in the hole none in the magazine and run it a little.

i shot a mix of wolf 123 FMJ and JHP out of bulgarian waffles, some polish polymer magazines and chinese steel magazines. i had quite a few failures to feed but from what i can tell this is the fault of the gun and not the mags. for some reason every few shots, regardless of which magazine i was using, the bolt would not go forward into battery and the middle of the round would get stuck on the feedramp and dent the case a little bit. the bolt carrier could not be pushed forward and i would have to pull it back and turn the gun to the side to have the jammed round fall out of the ejection port. it's hard to get a picture but here is basically what the jammed round looks like minus the bolt carrier pushing on it.

one of the offending cases. (the silver triangle is the part that impacted the feed ramp, it doesn't look so bad in the pictures but is a pretty deep dent in real life.):

besides a messed up feedramp the only other things i can think of are a weak recoil spring or my bolt is impinging on the internal lockwork somehow and slowing down the action enough that i get a failure to feed.

now, when the rifle functioned it shot great. the muzzle brake makes a huge fireball that is big enough to obscure the entire field of view of the kobra and is so loud it feels like you are being hit in the face everytime you fire. this is probably because i was at an indoor range with stalls but it was loud enough that even with 31dB plugs my ears were ringing after the first few shots so i dropped on some muffs to augment the plugs and things went firne after that.

since i haven't really given the kobra it's paces i tried out all the different reticles and found that the dot is harder to keep on target and acquire the target than the other three. i really liked the crosshairs and found that i could shoot a five inch 31 shot group at 75 yards from a kneeling position. the chevron+dot still remains my favorite. it is very easy to acquire the target and stay on target during rapid-fire. i shot my best group of the day with this reticle, a five shot .78 group at 75 yards and a 4 and 1/4 inch 30 shot group at the same distance from a prone position.

i fired about 200 rounds total and my shoulder is not sore at all, but the rifle was dirty as hell and it took me almost two hours to clean everything. the gas tube alone took me 35 minutes, but i do like a clean rifle.
