American Ammunition, Inc. Good?

It is absolutely craptastic. Give it to all the people you don't like.
I don't think that I know people whom I dislike that much. Besides, people who are that way likely would not take (bad) ammunition from me!

So, does anyone have any other advice on what I should do with the leftover AMERC ammo?

BTW, did anyone notice that AMERC now has some sort of a federal government contract to make ammo?

Amazing!

You have our sympathy, Bahadur

About all I can suggest is to use it for plinking and shooting at informal ranges, where you're NOT apt to find the brass to recover. One thing about it, you have a high probability of being able to practice your stoppage drills. I surely wouldn't take it to a match - -
1. It is not accurate enough to allow for uniform hits. You wouldn't be able to tell if you were shooting poorly, or if the ammo was at fault. (OTOH, if you're allowed alibis . . . ;))
2. Other competitors will point and snicker at you.
3. The brass picker-uppers will not thank you for the "donation" of the cases you leave on the range.
:D

cbjessee@NH, looks as if you have your answer, in detail. :D I am an old-line brass scrounger, especially for .45 ACP, and even I won't try to reload their cases.

RightIsRight, before reading this thread, I've never heard of this brand of ammo actually causing damage to a firearm. If I'd spent the money on 500 rounds, I think I'd do a search on the net to see if there's any documentation about this damage, or if it's just a rumor. Any way you can take it back to where you bought it for refund, on the basis of them having sold you a hazardous product?

Best,
Johnny

No - absolute junk. However, do not confuse it with Federal American Eagle (which is excellent quality target/plinking fodder).

And risk damaging mah guns? Heck no!

I am convinced that AMERC ammo was responsible for damage to my FN High Power (the extractor blew off). At a minimum, it terribly leaded the barrels of several of my pistols.

I guess I'll take all the AMERC ammo (about 1,000 rounds I think) to a local gun range that offers to dispose of old ammo.

Some one warned me the stuff sucked, but I tried anyway.......it sucked.:uhoh:

A-MERC 45 ACP

 JOHNNY, next time in town, I'll bring the rest of the A-Merc .45 ACP with me and we might slip out to the range, if no one is screaming for us. I just want to say, I might have to put this stuff into a time capsule at the bottom of the MARIANA TRENCH, or shoot it single shot in the TC. :)
If you can get 7 more people to come, we will each only have one box of 50 to burn on the line. :D

Is it time for me to BBQ again?

Glad you asked!

I'm glad you asked. A friend and I ordered 2000 rounds of 45 ACP from American, just to use as practice ammo. We figured “what could it hurt”. We experienced a 30% FTF. We called American and they agreed to take it back and send another "hand-picked" batch. After several calls we “finally” received the second batch of ammo. We noticed right off that there was so much smoke every time we fired that it was like we were using black powder. When I cleaned my barrel at the end of the day, I couldn't get the junk out of the barrels of my two Kimbers. I soaked the barrels in everything imaginable and cleaned and brushed for a week. It appeared the residue was a combination of the lead and whatever coating was on the bullet. Another friend of mine tried it out on an old Colt and experienced the exact same fouling problem. He also spent a week trying to clean his barrel. It goes without saying that I will never again attempt to ruin a barrel with this junk...not even for target practice. Pay just a little more and buy ammo that is consistent and reliable.

Put it in a SHTF bucket, seal it, and bury it in case...well...SHTF. :D ISTR reading that one of the training companies (I don't recall which, tho') disallows use of American Ammo because it is copper-washed and not jacketed. Supposedly it allows lead build-up. Not good for GLOCKs, anyway. FWIW

Yeah its certainly dirty. Though I don't think I had any wild loads, my m1 carbine is still black from that stuff. I had a few of the cases split when fired though.

The local range gave it a chance a couple of years ago. Two days after it hit the shelf they packed it up and sent it back. Squibs, overcharges, and consistent failures to feed and fire - usually at the rate of several per box.

Don't use it. Spend an extra four or five bucks a case and get some Wolf, WWB, or Blazer to plink with.

Brad

I tried a few boxes of 9mm, It seemed ok,, but a friend tried to reload the empty cases, and they wouldn't even fit in the resizing die. So, now I stay away from the stuff.

I found two A-Merc spent cases in the 9mm brass I got - both have off center flash holes, and are obvious (censored). I put one aside to remind me of what NOT to use in my CZ!

Don't do it! Their brass won't extract from my S&W J-frame and it's very inaccurate.

ammo do's & don'ts

I am REALLY SORRY to have to say that the A-MERC/AMERICAN AMMUNITION for pistols is truly bad quality in all departments. It groups somewhere at 25 yards, but not often on a BIG SIGHT IN TARGET, so I must need larger paper the size of a barn door to try the next time, just for curiosity.

I have great results with CCI BLAZER ALUMINUM CASE.
I have very good results with AQUILA 45 ACP IQ alloy bullet ammunition.

The CCI gives 2 1/2 inch groups at 25 yards and the Aquila 117 gr alloy bullet gives 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 inch groups at 25 yards.

Winchester sxp is also first quality.

Try NATCHEZ SHOOTER SUPPLY when the Aquila 45 acp IQ is on sale for half price for the 20 round box. About $4.99 then. It shoots good and is clean. I like it because it allows me to carry more ammunition with less weight. Because i hit my targets, it also makes me happier.

I would call A-Merc ammo Horse Manure but that would be insulting both to all horses and to all manure.

I am amazed that bunch of irresponsible idiots are still allowed to manufacture that dangerous junk.

I won't shoot the A-Merc ammo. I have had very, very good luck with Wolf in .45, 9mm and 7.62x39 and .223. I have also had good luck with the CCI Blazer, in both .45 and .357. The A-Merc on the other hand, while I haven't had any catastrophic failures, just isn't particularly good. I have gotten a few failure-to-fires with it, and it seems to produce alot of FTE. On this same topic, I had HORRIBLE luck with WWB ammo, but enough people have told me that they have had good luck with it that I might give it another try.
