American Classic Amigo?

Illinois finally has adopted CC, so I have been itching to get a compact 1911.
My LGS has a slightly used American Classic Amigo, which is a 3.5 in (officer size) 1911. I had never heard of American Classic before yesterday. The gun looks good and is tight and smooth. $475.
I searched THR and got little info. Does anyone have any experience with this brand??

I don't have the Amigo but I have the commander size American Classic. It's an excellent gun. It shoots very well and is incredible accurate. The only problem I've had is with the factory magazine. It sucks. With Chip McCormick mags though it runs like a top. Other people thumb their noses at it because it's not a kimber but I'm ok with that.

I was looking for a cheaper 1911 with 3 dot sights and the beaver tail safety. I stumbled across mine and have no regrets.

The smaller a 1911 is made, the more picky it is about feeding and the less forgiving it will be of slight errors or dimension variances.

I'd be very cautious and try to get the shop to agree to you giving it a thorough testing before I spent nearly $500 for what might have been someone else's problem gun.

If I could run 100 rounds through it first, I'd probably take the risk. If I can't, I'd probably walk away.

Thank you all for the responses. I purchased the Amigo this afternoon.
Cooger: I bought three colt mags to go with.
Sam1911: good advice. The compact size was what appealed to me in the first place. My LGS already agreed that if I didn't like it, I could trade it for an 870TB trapgun of equal value.
Since it was a used gun, I was allowed to fire 2 mags through it at 10yds. I was able to cover 9 of the 14 holes with my thumb. It did have 1 ftl.

This is my first 1911 and I have much to learn, but I really like it.
when laid on top of my sp101, it is scarcely larger, maybe a bit thinner.

American Classic line of 1911's is made by Metro Arms Co. out of the Philippines. They are a budget priced 1911, but that's not necessarily bad.
I had a Government sized Metro Arms 1911 for a few years and it was awesome. It never had a malfunction of any kind in over 1500 rounds and was nicely fit. They are also made with forged steel slides, not all the budget brands have that. Mine was also made exactly to Colt specs and I put several aftermarket parts on it with little or no fitting.

I've had my 5" for about five years and have never had a ftf or fte....other than changing the grip panels (the originals were WAY too thick), I've done nothing to it other than cleaning.

Iv'e owned a few 1911s. The American Classic I had was the only one I had that was 100% reliable. It was also nicely fitted and super smooth. I think you did well.

Now I am checking into holster options for the Officer size 1911. A cheap but usable leather iwb came with it. I would like to find a nice owb. I have a Fobus kydex paddle for mu sp101. I mioght look into that for the little 1911 also.
