American Handgunner- New Federal Ammo to Replace HydroShok

45crittergitter…

Tom Gresham said today that the EMFJ is the Hydrashock replacement, according to Federal.
While Gun Talk is a terrific show, and Gresham surprisingly outspoken for a "gun writer," if you heard him correctly, he was incorrect.

That show is not yet available from the Archives so I can't review it for content and context. However, since EFMJ has been in release now for several years, and Hydra-Shok is still available, simple logic impeaches such an assertion.

As if by wizardry…

…an archive of yesterday's show is available, and I've been listening to it, and 45guncritter did in fact hear Tom correctly.

But Tom is still wrong, and has only to review his own broadcast from Barry, Illinois at the end of August to get the accurate information from ATK/Federal's Product Development Manager, Drew Goodlin, he interviewed.

Right after that, Tom also gave a telephone caller inaccurate information vis-a-vis Winchester's Black Talon ammunition and the Long Island RR murderer, Colin Ferguson.

Well, Tom will be the first one to tell you he is often wrong. I remember the program with the Federal representative, and knew this didn't click. I guess we will all wait a bit longer....

When do people wear 4 layers of denim? At most, maybe 2... but 4? Denim shirt, denim vest, denim jacket?

One thing about the H.S. slug... they have always been remarkably accurate in my experiences with them.

EFMJ? I'd rather use a JSP.

Hydra Shoks

I'm not a ballistics expert and neither do I play one on TV, but from a Legal/ marketing point of view, the EFMJ round would make sense in locations like New Jersey, where pions cannot possess hollow point ammo!! Of course, all the anti gunners have to do is ban any type of expanding ammo!!

I have not seen it on the shelves of any gunshop I have visited here in Arizona!! :banghead:

Why aren't they making it in 38 special or 357 Magnum? Is there not a demand for it. It seems that Federal is trying to market this as a Jack-of-all-trades type of round.

Open your mouth about terminal effects and "stopping power" and people will line up to call you an idiot or a liar. The instant destroyer and killer (IDAK) researchers have done this to each other so effectively that nobody knows what to believe.
Rather than decide that all the ammo gurus are self motivated- either from financial interests or simply humping their own expertise, it would probably be better to decide believe that ALL the theories are correct. Like Brother Dave Gardner used to say " Dear Hearts, I believe in EVERYTHING!" Will Rogers once remarked " It is better not to know very much than to know a bunch of stuff that ain't so" and diverging somewhat from the point, Mark Twain held forth on Faith in this manner:
"Faith. Why, Faith is believing something that every reasonable persons knows perfectly well ain't so."

Often surprised and disappointed when my 1911s malfed on previously, apparently highly functional JHPs, I have taken to stuffing them with ball rounds. ( you can still find one cadre of experts that claim ball is 98% effective even though it probably isn't). One night, I engaged in a tactical manner ( my flash light was the surefire dealie with the " claws of ninja death" on the front bell), a 'coon. He was standing on a concrete slab and went down hard and exasanguinated a huge puddle of blood complete with large clots. It was very violent and looked like things I have done with a variety of JHPs.

It's the thread from the dead!

BTW, I'm pretty sure that, three years later, Federal is still making the Hydrashoks. :neener:

Mike

I was reading it and saw how old it was, I was wondering what brought it out of the archives.

It turns out that nothing really changed.

It was kind of funny when I realized that the thread was so old, because in 2003 I did not even have any guns. I got into guns in late 2004, and Hydrashoks were my ammo of choice at first.
