American Made Blades

teej6,

Ontario is one of the few manufacturers that run their own factory. I don't know if all their blades are made in their factory in NY, but the vast majority are.

Most of Ka-Bar's line is made in shop in Olean, NY. From what I hear, it's right across the street from it's parent co. Cutco.

I also believe that Ontario makes their blades in shop as well.

OK, from what I just read Ka Bar makes its own blades. Appears to be 100% American made. Here is a link to their blade process.

The Ontario web site gave no blade information. It does show a banner stating the knives are "Proudly Made in the USA".

Appears to be 100% American made.
Except the Heavy Bowie and Kukri that I have? The line is not 100 percent American, there are many models of Kabar made in Taiwan.

I have the privilege of living in Oregon. Within a 15 minute drive of my office are the manufacturing warehouses/headquarters of:

• Kershaw (Zero Tolerance, Shun)
• Benchmade
• Gerber
• Leatherman
• CRKT (even though it's just their headquarters, not any manufacturing)

Before Benchmade bought Lone Wolf, that was very nearby also.

The knives that number the most in my collection are Kershaw, and I'm very careful to buy USA made models, though most of them are "factory seconds" bought at substantial discounts during their yearly factory sale. They all work and cut great, though! Plus, anytime I need my Kershaw sharpened, I just walk there on my lunch break and wait while they do it for free.

But Benchmade holds a special place in my heart. The most expensive knife I own is a Benchmade auto (thank you, Oregon for your superb knife laws for citizens). And my most commonly carried knife is a Mini Griptilian. I don't leave the house without it.

I would love to own a Spyderco Paramilitary II, but I just keep going back to the Oregon companies! Not only do I feel it's important to buy USA-made knives, but I have the particular dilemma of trying to stay local. VERY local.

Aren't Kershaws made in the United States of America, Japan, and China ?

CRKT has some US made models , but many others are Taiwan.

Gerbers are also not all made in the US , if remember correctly , only a few models are , most are outside US.

Absolutely, but I thought this thread was about American knife companies that make at least some of their product line in the US. As of right know, I'd estimate that at least about 50-60% of Kershaw's entire line is made in Tualatin, Oregon.

I haven't looked into it lately, but about 2 years ago, I drove to the CRKT headquarters hoping to see what they were all about, and the woman at the front desk told me they did not manufacture any of their knives in the US. They were mostly from Taiwan. Whether or not that has changed recently, I don't know.

Again, this is correct, but it is an American company that makes at least some of their product line in America with American labor.

Queen Cutlery anyone?

Successor to Schatt and Morgan Cutlery and sister company to Ontario Knife Co.

What about Moore maker tool here in Texas they are everywhere. Anything from a toothpick blade, folders, fixed blades, to a machete. I love them.
