American Rifleman got my hopes up. Ruger dashed them.

Mildot has it right about heavy barrel, parkerizing, and AR mag compatibility. Heck, even AR mag compatiblity would convince me to buy another Mini. In addition to selling affordable 20round factory mags they also need to bring back the factory folding stocks and GB models.

I've passed up good deals on Mini-14s and Mini30s primarily because of the mag issue. Yes there are plenty of places that sell factory 20rounders but who wants to spent $40 for one 20round factory mag? Also most aftermarket lower priced aftermarket mags are pure junk.

Hasn't anyone at Ruger seen the new AWB proposals? The Minis are on the list now, no Ruger "loophole". Maybe that is why they trying to cosy up to the NRA now.

Jeez... almost any thread with the Mini-14 tends to go downhill pretty fast.

Here's what I know about Ruger and his Mini-14 by frequenting THR:

NOT RELIABLE!

They're too expensive - you might as well buy an AR instead.

They're not accurate when the barrel heats up - after 5 rounds!

No aftermarket support, and for that matter, there's really no manufacturer support either (hence, no hi-cap factory mags for civilians)

Bill Ruger is really a NAZI and does not support gun rights in America (not really, but you get my drift)

How about we start a thread titled: "Things we DON'T LOVE about the Mini-14" (no more "Hate" threads... remember) - it would probably go on for pages.

And you learned quite well and correctly; you're welcome. :)

I agree with the others. I ain't ever buying Ruger again. I've been warning people since 1994 - at the first opportunity, Ruger the company will turn like a snake and bite us in the butt. And they will - that's the entrenched culture over there. Boycott, make them die; and like a Phoenix from the ashes, young & new, as well as old, pro-rights American companies will emerge and thrive. Remington, Marlin, NEF, all of your Cerberus group companies. Kel Tec. Kahr. Mossberg. Robinson. AR15 makers. Etc. All of these companies make good guns and DON'T support violating our rights - they deserve our wholehearted support, and Ruger deserves our infinite scorn and boycott.

My Mini 14 was reliable.
It wasn't accurate.

It is too expensive when compared to ther rifles on the market right now.

Ruger doesn't want to sell high capacity magazines to the general public not because anybody there is a Nazi.
More likely is that they don't want people to learn how bad the groups become when sustained fire is attempted.

Ruger has always been a manufacturer of "Sporting Firearms", their words, not mine.
Tactical isn't this companies forte'.

Plenty of shooters win trophies in Cowboy Action Shooting with Ruger revolvers, they are a preferred revolver in this sport, so Ruger can produce some competitive firearms if they really want to.

No slam on Ruger.
It is just the way it is.
