My local gun shope has an american security BF series safe that I'm looking at. The depth is 17" and it holds 16 guns max and has mirrors on the back side of the interior. It is silver gloss painted and fire rated for 90 minutes. Now I dont see that model on their website. I can get it for 1306 plus tax. Does anyone know how old this model is and if its as good as the current bf series? Thanks in advance for any help.

One of the issues I have with AMSEC is that they often reuse model numbers.

You are correct in assuming that AMSEC did have an old BF line prior to the new BF line, and the two are not the same. The two smaller modern BF safes are 60x30x26 (BF6030), and 60x30x21 (BF6032). There should be a date sticker on the inside of the door that tells you when it was manufactured. If I recall correctly, the new BF safes started production sometime in 2005, but don't quote me on that.

a1abdj,

Whats the difference in the old and new BF line? This is a new safe still on the pallett. He said that he got it in last year. There is another one right beside it that is 21" deep, green textured finish, and electronic lock. Both look identical other than size and finish. I can get that one for 1285 plus tax. They are selling off their AMSEC safes because they are switcing to Heritage. Something about AMSEC going up too high on the shippig of their safes to them. Heritage reps were actually there in the store this weekend.

I believe the old models used gypsum board for insulation, and the new models use the composite injection. The composite safe is a better design, and if he got it in last year, it should be the newer model. I don't believe they ever made a BF series safe, in either model, that was 17" deep, so I would verify what it is.

All of the information: date of manufacturer, inspector, model number, etc., should be located on the inside edge of the door.

AMSEC probably found out they are not a safe company and revoked their purchasing ability. AMSEC prefers their products be sold through professional safe outfits as opposed to sporting goods stores and the like.

I'm pretty sure they both were composite injection. There was a little cutaway of it sitting on top of them. I was very impressed in the quality of AMSEC over Heritage. My dad and I are going back in tomorrow to buy both of them.

One thing that I found dissapointing was that the Heritage reps that were there didnt know much about the very safes they were selling. First question I asked was the gauge of the body. The guy didnt know, but I already did. It took all of a couple minutes on their website before I went in to look at them. Reminded me a lot of car salesman.

Went went back today and bought them both. I was wrong about the sizes. The platinum gloss one was a BF6032 and the Green textured one was a BF6030. They were both made in 2006 and are the current type BF models. Got them both for 2589 plus tax.

Just one question. I guess I need to put it in the garage since I live in a mobile home and I'm concerned about 810lbs on the floor. The subfloor is 3/4" particle board with 16" on center joist. Would the floor hold if I put it over one of the steel beams?

Chavist93;

Yes, if the safe is put over one of the steel beams, there should be no problem. Presuming you don't have something like just the edge of the safe overlapping the beam. If you can access underneath your home, you should be able to reinforce any particular area & place the safe where ever you want it.

Thanks CB,

That makes me feel a lot better. The place I want to put it would have it place directly center of one of the steel beams. I went under there and the beams are huge. I really didnt want to have to put it in the garage.
