I recently realized that my cable system is now giving me OLN, so I searched for American Shooter for the first time since it moved there. All Tour de Lance at the moment. So I went on the A.S. website and, while up, it looks pretty dusty. Anyone know if a new season is planned?

jim scoutten the host of american shooter is now hosting a new show called shooting USA. it will be back on after the tour decheese eating surrender monkey is finnished. saddlebum

American Shooter stopped airing new episodes at least a year or two ago. They have been re-airing old episodes, some with new "Gun Tech" segments. I believe that they will continue to air reruns, but saddlebum is right. Scoutten's new show is Shooting USA--it started airing this year.

Isn't it funny that a competition in France is absolutely OWNED by the Americans and Germans... :neener:

Armstrong -- another American success story to piss off the world.

American Shooter and Shooting USA are both aired on OLN (Outdoor Life Network).

I'm in American Shooter withdrawls myself. I'm just waiting for Lance to win and get over with it. I guess it'll be shooting USA from now on. Either way I want OLN back from the Tour de France.

Just found this in my email today.

Message from Jim Scoutten:

Shooting USA returns to OLN's line-up Friday, 7-30-04 with two broadcast times: 8:00PM and 11:00PM Eastern Time. The subject is the USPSA Factory Gun Nationals.

The show will also air Saturday, 7-31-04 at 1:00PM Eastern and Sunday, 8-1-04 at 9:30AM.

Now that the Tour de France has ended, OLN is working into a new weekly schedule of outdoor programming that will have Shooting USA debuting new shows weekly in new timeslots, however it will take 10 days or so to work into the new schedule.

We've posted a full explanation of the temporary schedule and the new permanent air times on the website at:

Make a note for Friday. We're back.

I posted a thread last year, wondering that OLN aired the "Tour" and nothing else than the "Tour" nearly day 'round. Everything else was eliminated. I called it "The Bicycle Channel".

You'll have it again with the next "Giro d'Italia" and the "Tour". The bosses of that channel must be great bicyclists :neener:

OLN became the Bicycle chgannel for July

They made an announcement early in the month that all regularly scheduled programming would be suspended for the Tour de France coverage and it essentially became the "Lance Armstrong Channel" for July.

Regular programming will resume later this week, as noted above.

I did hear that they got a lot of angry phone calls for dropping ALL their shooting, hunting and fishing coverage for a single event.

On a personal note ...

I'm not a big bike racing fan but Armstrong visited my nephew at Mayo clinic when he was 17 years old and had Leukemia. Lance spent an hour or so with Joel talking one-on-one with him about coming back after going into remission.

My nephew recovered, by the grace of G-D and the skill of some fine physicians, and played football for 3 years at Northwestern. Now he's doing the visiting at other hospitals and he still gets occasional e-mails from Armstrong.

So I guess he's my hero too.

Has anybody watched Shooting USA? How does it compare?

It doesn't. Its pretty much only focused on shooting as a sport. Not much history, drool factor, or recreational factor. Don't get me wrong, its a good show, just doesn't have the diversity that American Shooter had.

Isn't it funny that a competition in France is absolutely OWNED by the Americans and Germans...

Well, the Americans & the Germans did spend a significant portion of the last century chasing each other around France. These days they do it on bikes rather than tanks :D .

Here is a reality break on Armstrong. He may be able to ride a bike. But, he had several affairs causing his divorce. He has four kids that never see him. What a great dad. Serious character flaws if you ask me.

He is no hero. It is all about him and his ego.

He has four kids that never see him.
Um, he has three Kids. Luke and the twin girls. His profession keeps him away from home, not just an affliction of the rich and famous and athletic. There are plenty of common folks with common jobs that don't get to see thier family as much as they would like.
Until you walk a mile in his shoes, I don't want to hear all this crap about assuming what the causes of his divorce are, or the factors in his life outside the public eye.
He is no hero.
Tell that to the thousands of cancer patients he's touched over the years. Not to mention the survivors.

Well it looks like they are finally airing the footage from last year's Collegiate Nationals next week. Be sure to watch it so you can see my teammate interviewed after she wins an obnoxious number of events.

Looks like the Tour will be picked up by Discovery channel next year so no withdrawals with Shooting USA,hopefully a complete season ...........

Well folks, I guess my ugly mug made it on the show somehow. I haven't seen the show yet, but one of my buddy's called me tonight to tell me about it.

I watched the show over the weekend. I thought it was pretty interesting and can't wait to see future shows. Glad to see that Jim is the host of this show. He's a hell of a nice guy.

I think Lance's courage shown in face of his cancer is commendable. His support of others is heroic.

I won't speculate on the causes of his divorce. His girlfriend is now Sheryl Crow...great singer and great body....just an idiot otherwise though.

I have lost all respect for the man.
