Americas Gun laws compared to Australia

It does seem strange, doesn't it duns...

In most U.S. states, we can, within the law, do something that would get us locked up big time in our 'other' nations.:uhoh:

This disparity certainly highlights the glaring inequity of Australian and U.K. law as far as one's human right to arms is concerned.

Vegemite!!

I love the stuff!:D The assimilation process took several years, but now I really miss it when away from Oz. Can't make myself pay the specialty prices in the U.S. for it though. If you're on a low-sodium diet, don't even think about Vegemite!

That must be terribly insulting. Imagine that; your given the privilege to purchase firearms, but one of the hoops you are required to clear paints you as a blood-thirsty terror to the community. What a slap in the face it has to be, for the government to define your actions of simply buying a gun, as violent in itself.
The Cooling off period is for your first firearm only ( in Victoria that is, don't know about other States ), after that it only takes a couple of days. Most firearm dealers in Victoria have an on-line service to speed the process up. You can have any centre fire rifle you like but all semi autos were banned back in 1997. You just need a genuine reason for ownership, most shooters in Australia are members of the SSAA ( Sporting Shooters, Association, of Australia) so that helps.

The very tight restrictions in the UK might have contributed to the intensity of the rioters in London, Liverpool and the other cities which suffer.
The police were using what appeared to be entry-level medieval training weapons: without the long shafts, sharp blade edges and points.

To buy any bolt-action or semi-auto rifle here (Mini 14 with a 20-rd. mag., SKS, "AK clone", AR with 20-rd. mag. etc) if you are not a convicted felon, and have not been charged with (or convicted of?) domestic abuse, as with many states, you can walk into any TN gun store and start the process. I've never bought a handgun or shotgun.

After you fill out the two or so forms, and while they check the database and help one or two other customers, it can take 30 minutes or so.

You can buy from a private citizen in your state, wherever you decide to meet.

Publius, I think the general belief's were similar to mine when I first asked the question. So the US is seen as an awesome place to holiday!

KodiakBeer. Cheers mate! I would love to visit Alaska, surely the Koala bears there aren't as dangerous as the drop bears we have here in Australia!

armoredman, Vegemite is tops isn't it! I love it on toast with boiled eggs

Koalas aren't a problem in Alaska. It's the Grizzlies you need to watch out for. ;)
