I just received a new set of these and was looking online about how to install and noticed I didn't receive a front sight installation tool...was I supposed to? I'm not sure how to screw in the front sight without such a tool. any suggestions? or do I just need to call cheaper than dirt and complain? thanks, Johnny

this is for my carry gun and I don't want to tear anything apart unless I know I can put it back together.

Does it say that the tool is included in the item description? Before ranting about it, maybe look into that.

If the sights you bought were the $28 ones, I'm going to assume the tool is not included, considering the tool alone costs $27

You will also need the correct tool for the rear sight installation, if you want to do it correctly, and without beating up (or possibly breaking or cracking) the new rear sight. It really makes the rear sight install easy, but the tool is expensive. Those are good sights, BTW.

Your LGS may do the job for a nominal fee, I shoot at two indoor ranges that will do the changeout while you wait gratis if you ask with a smile. Never hurts to ask....:)

The only sights I've seen that come with the removal/installation tools are XS.

That's great to have access to a facility that will help out like that. Back in March I had my LGS do a set of night sights for me. It took him 6 weeks to turn them around, and cost me 25 bucks. The reason it took so long is because the guy is good. He's the only game in town I and many others trust. However, I didn't like being without my pistol for so long, so this week when I wanted to put sights on another pistol I decided to try to DIY it, then take it in if it was too difficult.

On the rack at the LGS, I found the big dot XS sights. They came with the punch to remove the old rear sight, and a combination tool for set screwing the new rear sight and the hex on the front sight (gun was a Gen 4 Glock). There was also a small bottle of red thread locker included.

In the end it took me 15 minutes on Saturday. The gun was fine on a Sunday range trip. I'll be doing my own sights from now on, and would encourage others to do the same. I don't have any skillset worth mentioning with gunsmithing, but this was easy.

Go to the hardware store and buy a 3/16" nut driver.

Put the slide in a padded or smooth face vice.
The plastic rear sight can be driven off with a hostess twinkee if thats all you have.

Fit the new rear sight to the slide dovetail by filing or sanding off the bottom of the sight dovetail until a tight fit is possible.

Drive it back on right to left with a brass or nylon punch & small hammer.

See this thread for more info on sight fitting.

Rear sight install tool is available on ebay for $50. PM me for that info if you'd like it.

The LGS I deal with will install no charge if I buy it from them. $20 if purchased elsewhere. By the time you do 3, the rear tool is paid for!

I've installed two sets of i-dot pros and both came with the front sight tool. Both of the rears needed a lot of filing also.
