Lately, shotgun and hunting rifle calibers, along with 22LR and 22 WMR, have been available at Wal Marts around here on the regular. However, I have yet to see any pistol caliber ammo.

Is this all Wal Marts or just around here?

The Lawton Wal Mart on Quanah Parker recently downsized the firearms and ammunition area. It now occupies a small cubby hole near automotive. i seldom see ammunition on the shelves.

they also stopped selling "SBR ammo". Ammo was a loss product and the "new" management has been phasing that out. Ammo now, Motor oil next, glasses, and pharmacy in the long run.

Would you care to mention which region of the country you are in. I've seen excellent avaliability at a few LGS and good prices on case quantity and even by the box but the Wal mart in NH that I used to rely on for shotgun shells has been bare shelves every time I've looked. They had the best prices on Bulk 12ga shotshells but it's been a good while since I've been able to stock up...

It's odd to me that some people on here still mention bare shelves everywhere and are still dealing with crazy prices on popular shooting cartridges when in my area it's really leveled off, it's not great like it was but I can live with $16/50 9mm for the time being.

Here in south west Florida, most of our Walmarts have stopped selling ammo all together. My last time in the Walmart by our property in cordele Georgia, they didn’t have any ammo at all either

Walmart appears to have three levels for servicing the shooting sports:

No ammo, firearms, or firearms accessories- Usually highly urban locations.

Ammo and some firearms accessories- Probably the most common configuration nowadays.

Ammo, firearms and many firearms accessories- Regional locations that service large rural or suburban areas. If a town has three Walmarts, usually only one will sell firearms.

My WalMarts always have 308, 350 Legend, 22LR, 22 WMR.

Sometimes they have 6.5CM and 450BM.

A few shotguns shells.

Not bad but I only get interested if someone is at the counter as I walk by. Otherwise I am waiting longer than at the ER.

I only go there for automotive products. Shooting and hunting are just targets of opportunity while completing that singular goal.

Almost every one I go into in West Central Florida has a stack of WWB 7.62x51. I get lucky sometimes, best scores lately have been 100rd bricks of Federal 12ga target loads and 2 weeks ago I found Federal Hammer Down 30-30 for $25. Pretty much every shop else where is selling less premium 30-30 for almost twice the price

All of the WMs around me sell ammo. Many sell reloading equipment and components...bullets, powder, and primers. Sometimes, they have brass.

Here in the Tampa Bay area, most of the Walmarts carry ammo....or at least have a spot for it. Some still sell firearms. 22lr is starting to be somewhat consistently in stock, bought some 22mag they had a few months ago. I've seen 350 legend pretty often, 308 sometimes, 222 was in just the other day...a few weeks ago I snagged a unicorn there...two boxes of Federal 30-30 for $19.99 each...bought a lottery ticket that day just in case
Oh yeah, no pistol ammo anymore, but 12ga target rounds are starting to come back

We had a Walmart in our area that used to carry 50 BMG ammo. After it was announced that Walmart won’t be carrying handgun and rifle ammo they stopped. It’ll like most of the Walmart stores in our area has a limited supply of accessories and a little bit of random shotgun and 22.

Most grocery chains seem to only carry hunting rounds and skeet. If there is any FMJ it's not going to be for a cartridge for a pistol or AR-15.

LGS prices in my area have been out of control for close to a couple years now. Within the past half-year the larger sporting stores have hiked up a bit higher as well. A good reason to stock up before the highs.

As was said earlier, Walmart stopped carrying handgun ammo and any “tactical” ammo a couple of years ago. They cleared it out dirt cheap. I bought a couple hundred $ worth but didn’t want to be a hog about it.
I remember prices being around $9 for a 100 round box of 9mm WWB, $12 for a 50 round box of .357, $18 a box for $44 mag, etc.

Got the last three four packs of Fed trap loads at ours today. $8/box or 96 otd. Shootin is getting more expensive.

bersaguy:

In a town (Tampa) where custom rifle designer/manufacturer Serbu Arms was allowed to be created, the fact that several Walmarts have ammo doesn't surprise me.

Maybe you will see Mark Serbu’s appealing daughter "50CalVal" (Youtube) in a Walmart sporting goods section......
