Hello,

Since when has Wal-Mart stopped selling ammo in Socal? Is this all or just some stores, i.e. only Wal-Mart Super Centers sell beer?

I wouldn't know. There have been increased controls on handgun ammunition for some time now, so I wouldn't be surprised if the Wally Worlds in your area simply decided the overhead involved in offering ammunition wasn't profitable enough. I don't buy from Wal-Mart anyway; I get my plinking ammo from Academy ($36 for 250 Remingtons isn't bad, and they're cleaner than Winchester even though white box is a few cents cheaper).

It is my prediction that in the next two years that WalMart will quit selling firearms and ammunition. I think they becoming very PC are worried about the press coverage they could get if someone bought a gun or ammo at one of their stores and went on a classroom or workplace shooting spree. Look for them to get completely out of firearm and related items in the future.

There is only 3 walmarts that I know of in San Diego that sell ammo any more. they say its because of the business costs I say they are getting pressured to not sell it. I have a feeling that very soon I might have to go to arizona to purchase ammo.

The two WMs near me here in San Diego both sell ammo at prices that beat any of the gun shops, but the displays are getting smaller. It would not surprise me if SoCalShooter is correct.
I buy most of my ammo online anyway and am saving all my brass to eventually reload.

That's real nice, but do you actually have anything, anything at all, to point to that would make you think that, or are you just another fire-and-brimstone gunnie pulling doom and gloom speculations out of an orifice on the internet for the heck of it?

If Walmart has made statements to the effect of "we are scared to keep selling guns-n-ammo" let's see a link, otherwise where the hockey sticks are you getting this? :scrutiny:

Skunk, six months ago when I moved out of that craph... er, California, my non-Supercenter Walmart was still selling all sorts of ammo. Couldn't tell ya if it's changed since then, but I doubt it.

Forget about trying to find ammo at Wal-Mart in the LA basin. Hell, most Big 5s don't even have it. Closest ones I've seen with ammo were in Palmdale or Palm Springs.

In fact didn't the virginia tech shooter use WWB JHP?
I know there is a picture of his ammo and I think that was the conclusion people reached. If that is the case it already happened.

The type of thing that makes such administrative decisions occur is people such as yourself believing that it is a logical course of action.
That somehow someone intent on a murder spree is going to be detered by having to pay a few more dollars on thier credit card (they don't plan to pay it off) for ammo someplace else. Get real.

Ammo Drying Up

"Not that it matters . . . but, yes . . ." (movie reference)

I was talking to the CEOs of Winchester and Remington yesterday, and they have been talking to Federal and Hornady about ceasing all ammo production.

They're worried that some of their ammo might be used in bank robberies and gang shootings. It bothers them that the public might perceive that their product promotes violence, so they've started by "drying up" the stuff they sell to Wal*Mart all over the country.

You'll never get them to admit it in public, but the evidence is clear. I mean, just look at all the Wal*Mart ammo threads here on THR! Dozens and dozens of such threads!

Coincidence?

I think not! (And with that, he disappeared.) [philosophy reference]

:D

In my area it varies from store to store. The closest WM only sells shotgun ammo and a few hunting accessories. The one a few miles up the outerbelt has a fairly good selection of handgun and rifle ammunition. Prices are as good as can be expected and the nearby location makes it worthwhile to pick up only a few boxes at a time instead of driving all over town to save a buck or two.

Still a buncha wal-marts in OC selling ammo. Orange Walmart on tustin, aliso viego WM, Foothill Ranch WM, Duarte Walmart, and HB WM are the ones I usually try to hit up before a range day. :)

As Black Majik mentioned, the Duarte/Monrovia Walmart sells ammo. I get #8 12 gauge birdshot, WWB 9mm luger value packs, and used to get WWB .45 ACP value packs (sold my .45 auto) from that place.

BTW, still have that Spanish FR-8?

Big 5's ammo prices are the highest of anybody's around here. The sale price on a brick of 22 was $16.99. BiMart's price for the same is $10.99. Guess where I am going to buy my ammo at? Acadamy in Portland,OR doesn't have guns or ammo.

C'mon,. that's an easy one. Neverending Story is like #2 on my GF's favorite movie list.

That's quite the twist on Descartes.
*********

Anyway, on topic, Wal-Mart around here is still selling ammo, and BP, but no "real" guns.

I talked to my local Wal-Mart sporting goods manager and he said that Wal-Mart is getting out of the firearms and ammo business because it is not as profitable as other merchandise. It has nothing to do with politics or being PC. It is purely a business decision based on financial gains/losses. And I can respect that.

Hmm I thought the HB one stopped?? I'll check with the one in Orange..

The Foothill Ranch and Aliso Viejo stores sell ammo. They put most of it behind the counter, but they still sell it.

The Sporting Goods manager in FHR told me that all ammo is age restricted so they put it out of the reach of the customers. The funny thing about that was that he was standing right in front of a pallet of shot shells.
