I just got an Uberti Cattleman clone of the 1873 Colt SAA in .45LC; I picked up some ammo to get started with:
1) Ultramax 200 gr lead flat point at 630 fps (powderpuff load)...thought it had more snot when I bought it before I researched it
2) Winchester 250 gr lead flat point at 750 fps...closer to 'normal' for this caliber
now I noticed that Winchester Silvertip 225 gr jhp defensive loads are rated at 920 fps...
I know the SAA clones are not 'magnumized' like Ruger Single Actions and Freedom Arms hunting revolvers...are Winchester Silvertips 'too hot' for SAA clones (or anything else around the same SAAMI pressure ratings)?
