ammo importing vs exporting and revenue generated?

After Vista sold their ammo department to the Czechs I had a couple of questions regarding the ammo market both in the US and abroad.

What percent of the US ammo market is exported? How much remains here?

How much foreign ammo is imported to the USA? What percent of the ammo market does it account for?

What is more cost effective/generates more revenue: manufacturing and shipping ammo to foreign markets or manufacturing and selling within the country of origin?
For example, toilet paper is so large and light that almost all of it is produced in the same country it is sold, whereas diamonds are so small and "valuable" that they are mined in Africa and sold everywhere.

I've always assumed that its is more cost effective to sell the ammo in its country of origin rather then exporting it for sales but I am having a hard time finding data to support/refute my assumption.

That answer is probably directly related to two costs: shipping and labor.

I don't see the cost of materials being an enormous difference, but powder could be more of a difference than I expect.

Back years ago I was in a job that required me to ship things of all sizes. I discovered very quickly that something small and heavy is orders of magnitude cheaper to ship than is something large and light.
10 tons of ball bearings is cheaper to ship than 10 tons of toilet paper. Cubic footage is as much a cost of shipping as weight.
Ammo is dense for its size; I. E - inexpensive to ship.

I also don't see shipping costs being wildly different across the globe.

Labor costs, on the other hand, vary widely across the globe, and even in adjacent countries.

That's the long way around the block to say that I would think more ammo is coming in than going out.

But I have no statistics.

That's hard data to pin down.
Which is not helped as the retail product passes through any number of hands whether foreign or domestic.
And, a number of "foreign" makers also have US headquarters/operations.
ITAR applies to ammo in both import and export.
