Hi all
I purchaced an all black kahr p.380 today. Im new to the .380 round but im not new to kahr firearms. I have 4 and really like them all.
I understand that kahr firearms come tight and require a break in.
Some more so than others.
I took it to the range with 200 hundred rounds of fiocchi and 75 rounds of Hornady critical defense.
I shot the 200 rounds of the range ammo first. I did not fire one magezine that didnt have a failure, most mags had multiple failures. Failures to go into battery and failures to eject. I was thinking i had bought a dud and was Dissappointed.
After the fiocchi i fired 60 rounds of Hornady critical Defense. Not one single malfunction, not the slightest hiccup.
My question is this:
Since the kahr fired all of the Hornady with no trouble at all would u be ok with carrying even though it chocked on the fiocchi.
Am i good to go with the hornady?
Is fiocchi a .380 round on the week side?
I really really like this little pistol and i was greatly relieved when it hate the Hornaday.

My philosophy on a pocket pistol is if I can find a brand of ammo that has "satisfactory" terminal ballistics and my gun cycles it reliably then I just shoot that ammo through the gun.

Having said that - it can get expensive having to practice with premium SD ammo because that is the only ammo your gun will cycle.

If I were to get a 380 (and I plan on purchasing the Remington RM380 when it becomes available), I would want it to be able to cycle Precision One's loading of the XTP - or some loading of the XTP.

Yes, practicing with the critial defense is expensive. Would anyone hesitate to carry a firearm that is utterly unreliable with range ammo, even after the break in? It cycles my self defense round of choice 100%.
Ive never seen this in any of my other pistols.
But like i said in the op.....im brand new to the .380

I had two CW380s at one point. When I got the second one I fired a box of RWS ammo and the gun malfunctioned a lot. Same as you, I fired 7 rounds of Hornady through it to see if it might have been ammo related. Sure was.

When I tried PMC and Federal ball ammo - not one malfunction.

FWIW, I was shooting a friends' 1911 recently and just had Fiocchi and S&B ammo.

I went through the Fiocchi no problem but when I started using the S&B I noticed it was a lot louder and I felt more recoil.

Ammo can be different, that's for sure and guns this small can be finicky. I was kinda upset when the first magazine failed to go through my little Kahr, but trying a different brand raised my spirits.

I'd try some other ammo.
