Can someone explain why the really good defensive ammo for pistols (Ranger, and gold dot) Comes in a box of 50, while the ammo that isnt as good, comes in 25 round boxes? (Golden saber, hydroshock) etc.

Now dont take lesser effective to mean bad, they've been proven, but the two i named at the top are the ones from my reasearch that are some of the best.

First of all... it is HydrA-shok, and "not as good?" I'd like some of what you've been smokin', cause the delusions are sure good!

seroiusly, where do you get that idea from? I think you'll find alot of people here who think you couldn't be more wrong...

Tests on forums, seen where the hydrashock has been plugged before with denim. Anyway, thats why the disclaimer is there.

It's called marketing. Generally standard ammunition (designed for target and practice) is sold in boxes of 50. Speciality ammunition for hunting and personal defense is sold in boxes of 20-25.

Before I buy any ammunition I check the manufacturers test information. For example a FMJ .357 from a target load box may have as much energy or more than a JHP from a premium box. Depends on what you want the ammunition for.

Most of the hype in handgun ammunition is in personal defense. A FMJ is going to have a greater chance penetrating a car door than a JHP. Ask they cops in your area what they use and why (for backup and off duty) you may be surprised.
