I made the 30 minute drive up the interstate to check out my local Academy to see what ammo was stocked.

They were out of 22 rimfire, most handgun ammo, and I did not see any 223 or 7.62x39. The only handgun ammo was small amounts 44 mag, 45 Colt, 25 ACP, 32 long, 357 Sig, and assorted handgun shot shells. They had a decent ammo of hunting rifle ammo and shotgun shells.

The rifle/shotgun racks were about 60% empty. All semi auto rifles and shotguns were gone. They still had bolt actions and higher end pump shotguns. There was a large number of people buying handguns, with many being told about the 3 day FL waiting period.

Nearby is a Bass Pro, and they surprisingly had a decent amount of handgun and 22lr ammo. Many Fed Black packs of 45 auto. Again they had 44 mag and 357 Sig ammo. They also has several boxes of Hornady and Sig 38 spl SD ammo, along with a single box of Hornady 357 mag SD ammo.

I considered getting some of the Sig 38 spl ammo, but I have a decent amount of 38 hp ammo (it's old but works fine), so I let another guy it.

I also considered getting the 45 Black pack , but I'm more interested in 9mm right now.

I did leave the store with a bucket of 825 rounds of 22 lr since my supply is getting low.

There was also a large number of people looking at guns here as well, but I wasn't paying attention so idk if anyone actually bought anything.

Local Academy here -- Terre Haute, Indiana -- was next door to wiped out re ammo supply this morning.
Stopped by at opening time -- 11 a.m. due to COVID-19 situation -- just 'cause I was out and about for a Walgreen's run and was curious.
Only .22LR left on shelves was birdshot.
Re handgun ammo, was a little bit of .25ACP, 32 ACP and 10mm; otherwise, nope.
Even the shotgun shell selection looked like it had been hit hard.
I wasn't phased, as I'm good with my reserves. One dude did look at the .22LR bare shelves and remark, "Guess I'm not going plinking today."
Felt for him a bit, but also kind of figured he must not read much or keep up with the news terribly well. Then again, maybe we here are a bit more "into" are hobby/sport than most.

The last ammo drought should have taught people a lesson.

True. I've been slowly building up a reserve which is not massive but for me is a decent sized amount.

Back in 2004 I lost a good job and have never gotten back to that point financially. Although I sold off many guns, I keep all the ammo I had acquired. It's a little old now, but was stored under good conditions and runs fine.

with many being told about the 3 day FL waiting period.

What is the policy in areas with waiting periods and emergency shutdowns? I imagine anyone buying a firearm this close to potential widespread shutdown of businesses would have to wait until it was over and be SOL.

Unless you have a FL CWFL, there is a 3 day waiting period for both handguns and long guns
