Ammo's back...?

And now we wait for the guy that says "how come none of you learned from the last time, I'm loaded up."
I was ahead of the curve on components but have since loaded them up so will need to re-stock powder, primer and bullets as time and money allows. Now that the supply chain is linking back up we'll have to see what will be available and at what price ?
Just glad that there is ammo to be bought again.

I was thinking it but am far to polite to say it.
I have my stock too. Reloading components. I buy 22lr every time I'm at Fleet Farm or my LGS. Not so much on 223 and 9mm though, which seems to empty first in a panic or a new President. I'll be buying more of those two as well.

Not a political site, but I believe Trump will be re elected. Look at his competition. Guns and ammo will hopefully return to normal once again. After his second term is over, who knows what will happen to our 2A. Another massive ammo and firearm panic.

All jokes aside ''you shudda learnted from the last time''

Can we all agree, basic economics aside, to possibly learn, THIS time? I mean, I understand diapers, tires, momma-wants are gobbling up a paycheck but, at least try. If economics allow. There obviously was some panic, but, did we in fact dodge a pandemic which potentially could have ended up nasty?
The following is a short list of ''close enough for horse shoes-hand grenades-nukes-drive in :cool:movies''...
TP shortage...meat shortage...ALL canned food evaporated off the shelves...protests that thankfully didn't evolve into worse, at MANY state houses...

Add a 3-5 day power outage due to summer storm and, voila.

FRIENDS! Look ahead to Black Friday sales perhaps. etc. Leave lessons learned twice for the other fellers!

I am in PHX, and my favorite gun shop has been well stocked on ammo and guns all year. The owner is very agressive in restocking though. He makes 4 hour drives to pick up ammo a few times per week etc.. But he is buying hundreds of thousands of rounds each time, then out again in a week. He gets many pallets of guns every week as well. I'm curious what is causing prolonged unavailability in some areas.

Haven't hit local stores recently, hope to soon. Rural King and Farm & Fleet are my main sources locally anymore, but haven't had another reason to go there and haven't gotten to shoot yet with the whole situation and all. However, I do need a new burn barrel and some new shoes, which are things I typically buy at each of those stores respectively.

I have noticed alot more ammo coming into stock online. Slightly elevated in price compared to pre-panic, but not outrageous. Looks like the potential shortage may have been overestimated, though election season may cause another spike in demand so we may see a second one in a few months.

I see your in Florida, if your closer to the Tampa Bay area check out Sunshine State Armory in Zephryhills. They were well stocked in everything and last visit they had Speer Lawman FMJ 9mm 500rds for $130 and cases of 5.56. The Rural King just down the road when I was there last week had 50 and 100rd boxes of .45acp

That's about an hour drive for me but the 9mm price is very good indeed. Thanks

I'm not out of ammo, just adding to the stockpile. I reload also and have a decent amount of components on hand but it's hard to be cost effective on 9mm when it can be bought quite cheaply in bulk. I shoot in a bullseye league, rimfire and centerfire, but mostly rimfire and have been buying it when it is available to offset the lean times.

Ammo az? That place is great.

As I mentioned, it's a distribution issue, not manufacturing issue. Obviously this gent not only has the $, but also the ability to pickup stuff himself. Evidently he has a relationship with a distributor...

I haven't seen a box of 9mm at my lgs in almost two months. I got a few bulk deals online before prices went up and held on to some delayed orders from bass pro. Glad I did, they eventually showed up and those prices are long gone. 1k rounds of CCI Blazer 115g, $209 delivered, showed up yesterday. Ordered that 3 weeks ago on sale. I was at my lgs last week when a pallet of Federal 5.56 in ammo cans was being delivered. I ended up with a new rifle and a can of ammo that day, but that's another story..

He has no 9mm ammunition listed on his web site(?)...

Oh, I forgot about that. He does 2 facebook broadcasts per day, morning and evening to announce availability and price that day. Before the scare he had it listed on thier site, but he sells out so fast now that brands change every week. They also only carry one brand of each caliber. It's a place for guns really.

He sells all thier guns at MAP too. They have had lines out the door and around the building literally every day for months.

My LGS, which is not that local, has had limited stock of common Handgun calibers. Limit 2 50 round boxes for the last few months for 9mm/.45 and what they have has been pricey. Plenty of 22lr at a decent price so been shooting lots of that at the range. Live in Chicago so online ordering is rough. Most Online stores won’t ship to my zip code and I’m running low.

What I’m seeing online is stock is coming back but prices remain high.

$50-60 higher than previously priced steel case stuff per 1,000, and $75-80 higher on brass cased range ammo.
If you browse around, you can find some reasonable prices.

I normally buy 9mm from the cheapest of SGAmmo, TargetsportsUSA, and Brownells, but they've been too high recently. For under $200 final price (tax + shipping), I've got a case of Federal aluminum, took about 3 weeks to deliver but it's here. Herter's from Cabela's, the 100 rd boxes, a 1k case that was $187 shipped. Took 4 days to arrive. Went ahead and ordered the Tula deal, $167, fedex says it will deliver tomorrow.
Got an order from Fenix Ammunition placed, $195 shipped, they openly state it would be 4+ weeks, but it's a reasonable enough price.

For these and other calibers, I find that if you actually search online instead of relying on search engines, you can do ok. For example, both Ammoman and Lucky Gunner occasionally sell "loose ammo" for cheap. I got 250 rds of brass Armscor .308 for $100 from Ammoman, and it shipped free. A box of Korean surplus 7.62 NATO for $250 (460 rds in boxes, in a .50 cal steel ammo can). Got another 500 rds of Red Army steel .308 for just over $200. I found 250 rds of "factory blemished" .45 acp for $62.50 at Defender Ammunition, added another 250 rds of reloads for $72.50, and with $10 shipping, got 500 rds of .45 acp for $145. Arrived within a week.

Now, I'm working and never got hours cut, and I recently added a .308 so I needed to add that. I already have 9mm but wanted to add more if I could find decent prices.

True stuff.
I also have an Academy near me. What I've done is search their site often of late. Some decent ammo at decent prices pops up with reasonable regularity. Online, they have a five-box limit on any one ammo item. That's a bit of a drag, but it's nearby. So, for the stuff they actually have at the store, I can order, wait a bit for the "order is ready for pickup" email or text, then go into the service counter, pick up and leave. Very handy for minor restocking of what I've shot recently.

9mm is now .20 CPR all over. It's heading in the right direction. I think the panic buying is close to an end. People have got to run out of money at some point. Yesterday the gun shop here that has had a huge line everyday, all day for 2+ months, and has sold millions of rounds in that time, did not have a line at opening for the day, for the first time. I am not buying anything else, until prices are back to 2019 prices.

I am seeing that the sellers on gun.deals are paying close attention to the comments on thier prices. I tested it last week, by posting comments which stated that the current prices are way too high in general, and that the panic is over. Buyers wait a month, as the prices are now staying elevated because of the sellers. Within a day I saw 2 prices get lowered. I then posted again, commending those sellers. I swear prices on more things dropped. Others were posting too, so not just me. It works.

People are scouring the internet for cheap ammo, that's for sure. If you find a deal, buy and don't hesitate- or it will be gone.

Case in point- the Herter's 9mm brass currently listed at Bass Pro. 8.99 a box of 50, comes out to 179.98 a case before tax, free shipping. For me, tax pushes it up to 197. The crazy thing is, for whatever reason I ordered this stuff through Cabelas a couple weeks ago, and it charged me less tax (came out to under 190)... so I briefly paused to check if it was at Cabela's (while sitting in my Bass Pro cart). None at Cabela's, decided I would pay the extra 10. It went all the way through credit card confirmation, but when I went to complete my order it was out of stock.

I think the panic buying is close to an end.
I think the Covid panic buying is over, but with what's going on in Minnesota (and spreading), I suspect we'll see another surge.

Kinda funny how that went... you can't defend yourself from a virus with a firearm, so the rush was to - what? Protect your toilet paper stash? Prepare for the end of civilization? But now with rioting and unrest, there's a legit safety issue out there.

I thought I was prepared, then noticed I needed .380. Ordered some and had to wait, but finally got it. Then ran out of Varget...the rush forced me to search for what had been a commonly available powder. Found some from a guy who was switching to H4350 for long distance loads. Looked for H4350....nobody has it. So between the panic and shifts in buyer demand, what's a guy to do?
