Threads about self defense shootings and using the same ammo as the local cops makes me wonder if anyone knows what's in Salt Lake City police guns.

Not sure about the SLCPD.

The UTA force just switched from 9mm Glocks to 40 S&W Glocks. Personally, I would find them to be a better department to emulate, since they are multi-jurisdiction throughout at least the Ogden-SLC-Provo Metro area, and maybe state-wide.

I didn't think Chief Burbank was allowing his officers to carry guns since they are so dangerous, oh wait, it was just citizens that shouldn't have guns.

He is a moron. As for caliber, I believe they are shooting the .40 cal.

Why don't you ask one of Salt Lake CIty's Finest?

I had a conversation with a County SHeriff here in SE Wash. State
- Whitman County. They carry KImber 1911s - switched from
Glocks 2 years ago. Didn't think to ask about ammo next time
I will though. I'm pretty sure the Pullman city cops use the Glock
21 I'll ask about ammo with them as well when the opportunity arises.

Officers are issued a Glock 17 or 19 and carry Speer Golt Dot 147 grn in them. The issue ammo for 45 is also the speer in 230 grn and I think the 40's get the 185 grn. Not positive about that one though.

WVSP carries Smith 45's loaded with 230 JHP's they practice with the 230 grain FMJ CCI Blazer aluminum cased rounds. Lots would argue they should practice/qualify with their duty ammo, but price is a huge factor.

Go to Getsome in Murry and ask the Mike that stands 6'4'' He is an officer.

They use to use Federal Hydroshock, I think they use Speer Gold dot now.

Considering the treatment I have gotten there in the past I would rather not go there for anything. I'll drive the extra distance to FBMG simply because their service is MUCH better IMO. I dont get the impression I am putting them out for having walked in the shop or having the audacity to ask them a question.

Ditto X 1000

Sorry to drift but... anyone that has a single gram of dignity and self respect should stay away from "Get Some Guns and Ammo"... they treat customers like DIRT. I tried to shop there a few times and gave up after multiple counts of unwarranted rudeness and disrespect. They seem to be sitting on a telephone pole or some other large anal obstruction.

Back on topic. I believe the SLCPD use Gold Dot... but I am not sure about the details.
