gburner,

but you werent being singled out. if you breach someones human rights then it should be highlighted, which is all AI has done here.

poodleshooter,

as the author of the original article stated, those "unlawful combatants" are POW and should be treated as such. that said, given what happened during Operation Teardrop during WW2 to KL Just and eight members of the crew of U-546, one shouldnt be surprised by this behaviour.

Operation Teardrop during WW2 to KL Just and eight members of the crew of U-546, one shouldnt be surprised by this behaviour.
How about letting us in on the secret ag? Operation Teardrop, KL Just, U-546, and combinations thereof, return only the above information on the first couple of pages during a Google search.

What happened to Kptlt. Just et al.?

Just and eight other members of his crew were detained as "military prisoners", rather than POW, because the US believed that the germans were going to attack using V1 launched from submarines.

the prisoners were subjected to repeated beatings and interrogations, one of which was witnessed by Lt-Cdr Leonard Myhre, CO of the USS Varian (involved in the hunt for U-546), who to the eternal credit of the US Navy bitterly protested at this treatment, after which Just and the other men was transferred to Fort Hunt, near Mount Vernon where the beatings continued, only ending after VE Day when KL Just agreed to write an operational history of U-546.

the story is contained in most of the U-Boat literature - try U Boats Destroyed by Paul Kemp or Wynn's U-Boat Operations of the Second World War vol II.
