Amsec RLT6040 E

Hi all,

I'm curious if any of the safe experts on the forum know the specifications of the AMSEC RLT 6040 E. I just bought it used, and the paperwork shows it was originally purchased in 1992.

Nothing is posted on the web about this model. I found an article on the RLT 6030, but it describes the bolts as being 3/4" on the one in the article, and the 6040 I'm looking at has 10 1" bolts.

Any help on material specifications on this model, and if it's UL rated for burglary or fire would be greatly appreciated.

This safe was built before I was an AMSEC dealer, and my older literature only makes short mention of it. I believe it's going to be a 10 gauge safe with 1/4" plate door. Nothing I have mentions a fire rating.

Simple enough to figure out if it is fire lined, knock on the inside of the safe on the body. If it's steel, it's not fire lined. If you're hitting gypsum board, it is.

As it stands, there are no gun safes on the market that carry a UL fire rating, including your AMSEC (if it's even fire lined). It should meet CADOJ standards, and may or may not have an RSC rating (which doesn't mean much anyways, so I wouldn't sweat it).

The back interior wall is carpeted, but the interior sides are visible steel, and measure 3/8ths of an inch thick. (outside width is 40", interior width is 39 1/4")

I'll have a scale accesible when I pick it up, so that'll help me gauge if its solid or not.

Venture to guess if its solid? or is it likely that there's gypsum in between?

I doubt it's solid steel. They probably have a piece of gypsum stuck in there. You'll know when you go to pick it up. If it's 3/8" plate, you won't move it very easily =).

I have an AMSEC from that era, a 6030 I think. It has very heavy guage steel walls and a 3/8ths solid door with hardplate protectingt the lock and one relocker, no fire lining, if it has carpet it might be firelined. Mine has steel walls. Mine has eight 1" bolts, four moving and four fixed and is pretty heavy for it's size. It has been a very trouble free safe.
