Hi Y'All....

Am really curious about the semi-auto AMT "Automag II" chambered for .22 magnum. Seems like it could be fun and pretty hard on varmintsthe too.

Anyone have/use one of these and care to share experience ?
Is it Good, Bad, or So-So ?

Thanks Y'All !

Most of the time they don't work right. Very ammo sensitive due to the fluted chamber.

I think the best chance of success is with standard Winchester 40 grain Super-X ammo they were designed for back then.

All of the newer light bullet and super-zapper stuff that's came out in the last few years probably will not function in them.

Thanks RC !!! Bummer news but finding it out before buying the gun is good! They seem to have asking prices of between $375 and $450 so it's a too serious of a purchase to come up with a "Jam-O-Matic."
I don't know of any other .22 mag. semi-autos so I guess my Ruger single-action will just have to do a while longer.

Thanks again !

I enjoyed mine, and didn't have problems at all with jamming. Eventually traded it to get a heavier caliber revolver. But looking back, I do wish I'd kept it. It was slim, easy to carry concealed, and generally quite accurate.

AMTs generally had a spotty record for reliability, but all the ones I've owned worked fairly well, except for one jamomatic Lightning pistol. But that one was fixed nicely by AMT before they folded. Nowdays that isn't an option. I do wonder though, if Hi Standard will provide service for older AMTs now that they own the rights to the AMT line.

My LGS has 3 NIB in different barrel lengths. They're all around $450. I guess a collector died. He also had an Automag in 30 carbine.

I would stay clear from AMT . Imo they are one of the most unreliable auto pistols ever made .

I still have mine. It works with any ammo I can find in .22 Mag. A very thin stainess pistol. More accurate then my eyes can aim. The only problem I had with it was when re-assembling. One had to watch for a spring that sticks up so you don't bend it. Even bending it I just bent it back. All in all a really great and is the only sucessfull .22auto pistol. It puts small round indents in the chamber which show up on the brass.
I also have several OMC/AMT, older heavy stainless pistols in 380 and 45. I found them to all work rather well. As all guns of their time they work best with FMJ ammo. Some gapping mouth hollow points just did not work.

Found something on them...
