I've been carrying this little wheelgun in an IWB holster and it works OK there. I've been thinking that I might like to carry it on my ankle, so thought I'd throw out a feeler as to the experiences of others of you who have done so... (Mine has the 3" barrel.) Thanks!

It can be done with a 2-1/4" SP101, but your 3" gun will need to be worn just that much higher up on your calf, and thus may result in either the muzzle protruding beyond your pants cuff into view, or the muzzle rubbing uncomfortably against your ankle bone, or in the gun being so high on your calf that you cannot raise your pants cuff high enough to reliably clear the grip for a draw.

Even with the shorter 2-1/4" gun, it's heavy enough that the sensation of wearing it strapped to your ankle will feel very much like wearing only one old-style all-leather combat boot on that foot. When I used to wear ankle holsters, I found the S&W M642 Airweight Centennial to be significantly less uncomfortable/noticeable than a full-weight all-steel snubby.

Kor, many thanks for the reply. I've carried the SP-101 in my left (cowboy) boot a few times, with nothing but a thick sock around it. I wouldn't want to carry it like that for long periods, but it actually wasn't too bad that way. However, it is *very* comfortable carrying it in the IWB holster at 10 o'clock in a cross-draw position, so maybe I should abandon plans for the ankle carry... :p

In my opinion the SP101 is too heavy for ankle carry. I think it would make you walk funny after a while. I carry a 12 oz. S&W 342PD in an ankle rig, and I wouldn't want to carry something that weighs twice as much. I love the SP101, but I think it needs to be in a belt holster.
