Hi All-
I'm getting about 20% of the cases with silvery necks. Is this over annealing? The case drops right when the 750 degree Tempilaq turns clear, what's up pls?
Thanks
No. The color change to brass is oxidation occurring on the surface. I've seen it before, does not hurt anything. The cause is generally something was on the brass, not squeaky clean. Also I've seen it happen with different mfg of brass gets mixed in, so it may have to do with the alloy. Wall thickness also comes into play, thicker requires a little more time. I try to angle the torch head so I get about 1/4" of the area under the shoulder, while still getting the neck fully. Torches with small flames causes more temp swing than broad flame coverage. So backing the flame off and increasing the time gives a more uniform/larger heating area.
