I was lucky to pick a nice day for the annual tame bird shoot yesterday. Temps were in the upper 20's when we started and quickly warmed to mid 40's. Conditions were excellent for a good nosed dog. My buddy owns the LGS and we try to go to Ozark Wings Shooting Preserve near Caulfield Mo at least once a year. We haven't had any wild birds near home for 30 years and this is the only game around unless you want to go out of State.
Cowboy Rick Hamby was our dog handler for the 3rd year in a row. He picked out a pair Brittanys that were fantastic and away we went. The field that we hunted had 3 Chukar, 2 pheasants, and 16 quail, plus birds that had been missed the day before. It was a gorgeous day to watch these dogs do their thing and the birds were flying good. In 2 1/2 hours we had taken our limit plus 2 bonus pheasants. I was amazed that we shot so well since I hadn't touched my 20ga Beretta since last year and Bob didn't get to go to South Dakota this year. I think I'll practice a little before we go again.
I'm sorry that I didn't take any pictures. Maybe next time.
