Last year my fellow gun shop buddy and I went to a Shooting Preserve in Missouri and did some of the worst shooting that we have seen in many outings. Bob is one of the best shotgunners that I have had the pleasure to shoot with. This man runs 98% on a Skeet range and around 75% on Sporting Clays. Last year we both hung our heads in shame. We shot all of our birds but it took a half day and many, many shells.

Today it was like the good old days even though I hadn't touched my little Beretta since last year. We took 16 quail, 5 chukars, and 3 pheasants and didn't miss many. It felt good to watch 2 good dogs work and feel the breeze in our faces. All is right with the world.

Sounds like fun but there was a few misses so you didn't totally redeem yourselves.
This calls for a second round.
I can't remembet the last grouse or pheasent that I have shot. It has to be twenty-five years ago or better.

I spent my teens and early twenties chasing quail here in Arkansas ans even got to go to old Mexico a couple of times. We could go out on a Saturday morning and get up 3-5 coveys before noon. In Mexico I took 23 birds in 2 1/2 hours without a dog. Now the nearest sate that has birds is Kansas. A Game Preserve is a lot cheaper and we have a good one within 40 miles of us. Tames birds aren't nearly as fast as wild though. I miss them.

Nice! sounds like a fun trip. Last time I shot at quail was with an M16A1; (with blanks!) On a road march, a covey busted right in front of me, and nature took over; everybody ducked for cover and opened up on either side of the road......

I was always a little down on the idea of preserve hunting, but with no other opportunities I went last winter with a few guys and we had a ball. We ordered 25 birds for four of us, and we got them all except one.

Yes, they are very slow, a couple had to be literally kicked up by the guide to make them fly. lol

It was also entertaining to see a dog that virtually hunts every day go out and eagerly do her stuff.

Ozark Wings in Caufield Missouri has a pretty good set up. They have large fly pens and the birds fly pretty good, especially the pheasant and chukars. This was the second time that we used Cowboy Rick Hamby and his dogs. His dogs are a pleasure to watch. May have to go again in a week or two. Looked like they still had plenty of birds.
