Another Alabama carry on campus poll

Guys, we're talking about Alabama here. Almost anyone planning on CCW at that age has already had some experience hunting.

And as far as 21 year olds, in Mobile county, anyone under the age of 25 applying for a pistol permit has to have letters of refrence from 2 people (not parents), as well as their GED or diploma.

Also, if you guys didn't read the article, the proposal has stipulations:
Under his
proposal, students would have to meet several conditions, including
being enrolled in an ROTC military training program, having no
felony or misdemeanor convictions, and completing a gun skills
course.

So after going through all that as well as the state CCL requirements, it is highly unlikely that someone would want to lose it. At least not any more than non-college CCW holders. BTW, how many "drunken college kids" have been shooting people in Utah?

As a college student with a CCW that carried on campus up until I found the specific section in campus regulations prohibiting it, at which point I stopped because I'm so close to graduation and because my class schedule fell directly afterwork where I cannot carry even in the car (because I work the Arsenal), I voted yes.

Yes 49% (175)
No 50% (178)
Not Sure 2% (6)

Hit it.

Why? What do you think is proved by flooding a poll?

Mike

It proves that there is a substantial portion of the population that is pro-2a, pro-self defense, and that we do want change. Even if it won't convince the anti's, it might show some lone-2a advocate out there that has never heard of THR or TFL or some other group and thinks he/she is in the minority and/or alone that they are infact not alone and have people on their side besides the NRA or GOA etc etc.

I do it to show the media that they are out-of-touch with the feelings and opinions of the general population - it's my only way of giving them the finger ;)

How does flooding such a poll prove anything?

Mike

I probably should have said "shows" but like it or not it does illustrate that there are a number or active pro-2a people out there that care enough about defending their rights to actually vote on the poll.

I went to college and I saw the drunken partiers who seemed to coast through and then just go drink and binge. I seriously doubt any of those people would care enough to apply for a CCW. I also knew a lot of people who didn't drink, or didn't drink much. I'm more inclined to trust people, especially if they've gone through the process of legally acquiring their CCW permit that they will use sound judgment. If you are irresponsible, you lose your license.

Innocent until proven guilty, it's what this country used to stand for. By assuming someone isn't responsible unless you control their actions (by not allowing them to carry on campus) you are saying they are guilty because they might do something.

Well I added my vote. And since I live in Alabama AND plan to go back to college in the not too distant future I'm not "flooding" anything, my vote is relevant here. :neener:

55% yes
44% no

This is a quote from the comments section:

Lets get back on topic. First this bill is for personal protection on a college campus. Professor's and wealthy students would probably be the main group using the gun privilege on campus. Aggravating circumstances would be drugs, alcohol and poor judgement. Lets not forget the hormone issue as well. This is a recipe for out of control violence. By law i can only shoot to defend myself, so how is everyone at school going to benefit from these weapons in the hands of poorly trained individuals. The net worth of these pistol packing individuals will not be able to get anyone back to normal health. Now lets get to the point, IT TAKES ON AVERAGE 30 MINUTES to get someone from a college campus to the nearest medical facility for treatment. BECAUSE OF THESE WEAPONS the same trip will take 3 to 6 hours. You may as well shot yourself because help will not be coming. The area will have to secured before the emt can enter the building.
