I understand that 9mm, .38 Special and .357 magnum take small pistol primers. I was pricing CCI small pistol primers today and I saw something else that I have a question about. There were CCI small pistol primers labled 500, 525 and550. What do the different numbers mean. I would have asked a clerk, but I had to leave before I could get ones attention.

Cute little story on CCI primers.

Went to the new gun/ammo store in town last week for primers.

Counter clerk gives me long speech about case price ( 1000 ) but says it doesn't matter, as this box only has 200 in it.

( CCI 200 primers )

Only when I offered to buy this "case" of "200" primers at $4 per 100 did a very amused manager actually appear to correct the transaction, as it wasn't scanning right :)

I love the managers facial expression when it got explained, but would have rather gotten 1000 primers for $8  ....especially considering that they do not in fact discount sales of full cases (10x100) of primers in that store.

I've never heard of CCI-525 primers and they have never been on the CCI site so I'm guessing the OP saw something else.

To the OP, here is the link to the CCI Primer Chart on the CCI site so you can see what the different numbers represent in primers.

I have a CCI Question. The Lot numbers are ONLY on the outer brown box of the 5000 count case. Cabela's (and others I assume) sell them in the 1000 count box, but there isn't a lot number on the box or on any of the 100 coun sleeves.

If you track Lot Numbers for Primers on your reloading spreadsheet, how do you go about getting the lot number?

In addition to the numbers 500, 550, CCI also includes the description on the box, such as, "Small Pistol Primer", or "Small Pistol Magnum Primer" and so on. With Remington, which I've never used, you almost need an application chart it seems.
