I have narrowed down my CCW choice down to two .40 pistols. I don't have the width specs on the XD, but I know the P2000SK is ~1.3 in. They are close to the same weight. The one issue I have is the DAO on the XD. I prefer DA/SA, and I can get that with the HK. I know the XD is a great pistol for the money, and the HK is about $250 more...but is it worth the extra cash? Anyone have experience with both?

I have experience with both. I've shot the XD and own the G27 and P2000SK V2 LEM .40. I think all three are most excellent guns and would carry any of them, though right now I carry my P2000SK and would prefer it over the other two. If I had to rank them, P2000SK, Glock 27, XD.

I haven't had a chance to shoot either pistol. You said you would rank the HK ahead of the XD. Does the HK shoot better, built better, etc?

I love my XD sub comp 9mm.

I guess at this point i would ask what gun has the cheaper mags and the easiest parts to obtain.

Then thats the one I'd get.

i have shot the two side by side and i prefer the xd's i have the sc xd and the service and i actually prefer the sc to the service they are both so awesome.

whitch gun

Have you looked at the CZ P-01 thats what I'm going to buy next week.

I have read that the XD's aren't easy to disassemble...and if you want to do a full breakdown, you need special tools. I'm not sure about the cost of magazines.

I haven't looked at the CZ yet...

I own a XD40 and love this firearm. I don't know where you heard the are hard to take down but I don't think it can be much easier. I even bought a 357sig barrel for mine. It is a drop-in conversion and you can even use the same clips. As for the HK I would go shoot the P 30 before I bought the 2000. I just got my wife the P 30 for Christmas. We went to the range and she shot a ton of different pistols. It is the smoothest and most accurate stock handgun I have shot. Hope this helps. MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!

I sold my XD SC9 earlier this year. I bought it with the intension to CCW it, but the lack of manual safety made me nervous to carry it with one in the pipe. The XD was very reliable, but nothing special compare to others in that price range.

Yeah, those little switches on the sides are tricky. :neener:

Seriously though.

To totally take apart the firing pin mechanism you have to drift out a roll pin. I do that with a leatherman and an allen wrench.

They aren't that hard to take apart.

Try out the HkP2000sk in DA/SA. Stay away from the LEM trigger!!!

The LEM trigger is made for, yes you guessed it: LEOs, with adrenaline. The trigger is like 25000000000000000000 lbs. to pull!!!!

I have an XD9, I thought it was really simple to field strip. I havent shot it enough to do a full takedown.
Make sure its not loaded.
Lock the slide back, flip up the take down lever, release the slide, pull the trigger, and pull the slide off the front of the gun. I think that took almost 10seconds? Then pull out the guide rod and spring then the barrel comes out.

The first time I field stripped my granddads Colt 1911 it took me almost 5minutes just to get the slide off. And probly twice that long to put it back together, all while reading an online writeup about it. But I did get it back together correctly on the first try.

I recommend the XD, but I dont know anything about the HKs.

A few years back when I was researching the XD service model, I found the width to be 1.2". I now own a service and sub-compact both .40, and they seem to be the same width. So I would not let the width difference between the 2 guns be a decideing factor (1/10th of an inch). I really like my XD's but I have never used the H&K so I can't compare the 2 sorry.

I've shot both... the H&K's are SO much better as far as shot placement, smoothness etc. etc. The downside is they do have a HUGE trigger force. The other thing is that they are a tad expensive.
Have you thought about a UPSc?
Anyways good luck

that is totally wrong the xds are easy as pie to take down, no special tools are needed. the instruction manual will tell you everything that you need to know on how to do it.

the 9mm and .40 mags are pretty cheap and can be had easily i go to www.pistolgear.com, stick with the sa factory mags.
