Seen the previews for it the other day and it looks like a series about the Alaskan gold rush. I watched that series they had on the California gold rush, great narrator they had, and I thought that was pretty good. They had the firearms somewhat correct anyway, but I think they should have had more miners and such carrying single shot pistols and/or pepperboxes then revolvers. But I can also imagine Colonel Colt sending out cases of his new 48 Dragoons and 49 Pockets and a little later his 51 Navy on ships heading for California.

But I can also picture anyone with any money out in California looking at those Colts for the first time especially those big, bad Dragoons saying, "Look at what do we have here."

I don't know I'm not a historian on the California gold rush, but one thing about the Colts, it seems everything that happened out in the west it seems that the Colt was a part of it. That's probably why I like the Colt so much. :)

Redarding California: From my research regarding Texan 49ers there were more than a few Texas Ranger Mexican War vets that made the trip to California with Pattersons and Walkers. While not a large number of Walkers as such, members of USMR were issued Colt dragoons before they went to California after the war. There were mass desertions with soldiers going to the gold fields. Thus there was big iron in ample #s there.
