I have a handgun in for repair at a factory repair facility. Today I inquired as to what there normal turnaround time was and how I would be notified when the gun was shipped. They said about 2 weeks on the turnaround, but that they could not notify me when it was shipped. I know the gun has to be signed for by an adult and none are at my home during the day. Work is out for delivery for sure, I kinda like my job. They suggested having a neighbor sign for it :barf: ... or having it sent to a nearby relative. I don't think that would even be legal in Michigan as you are not aloud to posses a gun that you do not own. According to "them" UPS will try to deliver three times than send it back to them. I thought UPS would notify me that I have to come pick it up. I'll be contacting UPS directly to see wha they say about that. I'll be contacting the repair facility again to speak to someone else about notification. If they notify me when they ship it and give me a tracking number I'll make arrangements for me or the wife to be home.

Has anyone else had a similar dilema? I have read posts about shipping but not about the recieving part. How do you all work it out for receiving handgun shipments?

Thanks

Even if it's marked "Signature Required," U.P.S. just tosses the box on my front steps. I used to have guns shipped to me at work, but some nitwit in the back opened a box once, and management had a cow.

I don't know about UPS, but if FedEx can't get anyone to sign for a package that needs a sig they'll often leave you a note as to when you can pick it up at the depot.

I just let them send it when ever and pick it up at the UPS office. I get a slip of course at the house and usually just give it to them, they even make me sign for it. You just have to locate your office, but it should have the # on the slip thats how I found it.

When I ship guns ,I like to use FedEx they have a good tracking system and a lot of locations you can have your package held for pickup.:)

This one's for Standing Wolf...

I can see it now... a nitwit in Shipping with a gun and that 'Duh' look on his face.

I've got one that may rival your story--I was out to lunch when UPS delivered; the secretary signed for it, and got curious since it was only address to me by name with only the address. No business affiliations mentioned on the package except "XX Shooter's Supply", so she opened it and found 10,000 pistol primers and 32 lb of powder labled 'explosive' and 'extremely flammable'. From what I hear, the entire office was on pins and needles 'til I got back from lunch. Made my day.:D
