LETS DROP THE LEO JOKES,

Uh, I am an LEO, that's why I mentioned the squad room. This poor guy's going to be the butt of lots of jokes, that's a plain fact. If you think cops get held to a higher standard by the public, you should see how an ND gets treated in the LEO community. It's a serious loss of face.

Dang if all i had to do was be stupid to get a 8 day vaccation, that is the job I want?

Hm. Not to interrupt our normal (for this board) cordial cop bash, but consider the impact of this "vacation"...

All that time on the force, usually means (in this day and age) about $30-35 per hour in pay--or more.

Most departments work 10 hour shifts.

10 x $30.00 = $300.00.
8 x $300.00 = $2400.00.

Could you easily adapt to the loss of $2400.00 in income, IN ONE LUMP?

Vonderek - I think it's an important story because one of the gun banners' biggest arguments to take firearms away from citizens is that only law enforcement and military are trained highly enough to be trusted with the possession and use of firearms...the rest of us are too stupid and dangerous to be allowed near them. A story like this serves to remind that law enforcement is not always as highly trained as everyone thinks. It makes one pause and think that perhaps the slow crawl to a police state where only the police have guns may not be such a good thing after all.

That was actually the first thing that popped into my mind when I first read this story. Specifically, Jodie Foster's comment about the fact that she thinks only the police and military should have firearms. And as Vonderek pointed out, that seems to be the prevailing point of view amongst most libs, that only THEY (eg Diane Feinstein) and the police should be armed. Us plebs are too stupid, and untrustworthy to be allowed the privilege of being armed, or even the privilege of defending ourselves.

And yes, as Moonclip and others have pointed out, LEO's should be held to a higher standard.

Authorities said he had hung the gun by its trigger guard, and the gun caught on the hook and discharged into the ceiling when he went to retrieve it.

He's lucky he wasn't removed from the gene pool.
