Stopped by "my" shop the other day to see if they had anything interesting. While I was looking at the rack a customer turned to me with a revolver in his hand and asked what I thought of it. It was an old Colt Official Police 38.
I checked it and said it looked to be in good shape, locked up tight, and I didn't see anything obviously wrong with it. He then said "Check the backstrap."
On the backstrap was stamped "TREASURY DEPARTMENT SECRET SERVICE." Fellow behind the counter pulled out his Colt book and checked the S/N and said it was from 1939.
I handed it back to the other fellow and told him it I'd buy if he didn't. He said "Well, I don't want it. I just thought it was neat." I said, "You're sure?" He replied, "Sure."
Out came the papers.
I don't go out of my way to look for Colts, but they're hard to pass up.
