Another which one thread...but I am debating this...and can't make up my mind!

Got about $600 give or take. Which of $200 are Gander Mountain Gift Certificates...so, I think I am stuck buying from there.

They have a Taurus PT 1911 for $499.99.
They also have a Kimber Custom II...(I never saw the price!!!)...but, I don't think it's out of my price range. Middle to upper 600's, maybe.

I have heard a lot of people saying not to buy the Taurus because of the name. Not wanting a Chevy vs. Ford vs. Dodge debate....

Which offers me a better advantage to buy...based on build, parts, reliablility, accuracy, etc. Does one offer a clear-cut advantage in an area...or is it going to come down to personal preference?

Thanks,
Sam

I am not sure if the taurus pt1911 has been around long enough for you to get a accurate opinion on how the reliability yet. They(Taurus) did have some reliability issues in the past, but now are putting out excellent pistols nowadays. For 500, you will be getting alot of bells and whistles on this gun, that would cost much, much more from any other manufacturer. I want one of these taurus's, but no one can keep them on the shelves around here.

As for the Kimber, I have an eclipse custom II, and I love it....I just wish I was as accurate as she is:D

Both would be quality guns IMO, but I think that the Kimber is going to be a little more than 650(don't know for sure, haven't been to gander mt)

use the search function there have been several , pt1911 range reports, and other first hand accounts about the pistol, all that i remember reading have been postive and so far it sounds like the few that have them or handled them are happy with them. i am gonna get the .40 model when it comes out. i think they are a great value, for everything you get, and they don't run that high at all. and they come with a lifetime warranty. if you want kimber go for it, but i am not a big name guy, if there is something equal to or greater than something else for less money then i am gonna go with the best value, plan and simple.
