Another scope going back.

I experienced a Leupold failure a week or so ago, this one a VX-5HD sitting atop a Ruger 300 Win Mag. with dad shooting.

First round was dead on, second and third were nowhere to be found using my 6.5X Vortex Fury’s.

Should have known. Even at 75 the old man still outshoots me, sorry for doubting you, Leupold. Hope they make that -3 right for you, @LoonWulf

I know it’s only 3 @ 50 yds but come on, he took his trifocals off!

Thata the kinda failures i can live with lol.

Leupold has the rep for legendary customer service. Please let us know how this goes for you.

Scope problems and loose rings and bases can make you feel like you are chasing your tail sometimes!

When I mount a new scope I set up the rifle on a sturdy rest and rear bag at the range and check the adjustments against a carpenters folding rule that I tape to the target frame. Then I shoot a box pattern.

Leupold has a rep for doing a good job of addressing the problems they create. They are like Ruger in that regard. Good CS starts with building a quality product and exercising quality control in the process.

Got an email from Leopold this morning that they're sending out another scope. Unfortunately they also sent it UPS...... To my PO box...... So I'm going to have to figure out how to get them to hold it at the location or go Be very nice to the USPS people and have them keep their eye out for it....

How long did it take for Leupold to communicate with you once they received your return?

Asking because I sent one in..they have had it for 8 days now and I have not heard a peep from them.

This is not whatvI expected. If this was Vortex..they would already have it repaired and on its way back, or at least they would have contracted me. Same goes with Nikon, and Athlon.

I'll be patient..but I do have limits. They can at least acknowledge they received the damn thing.

I called. Guy I talked claimed they didn't receive it. Gave him tracking number..says it was delivered last Wednesday. He verified..but then said sometimes it takes 5 to 6 days for it show up in their system.

Funny thing...while I was talking to him..the e mail notice rang in the background on my phone..and yep..it was from Leupold, telling me they got the scope...uhmm..OK then.

I didn't say anything to him..I just asked him..once in their system or whatever..how long will it take to repair? He didn't know..but told me it could take 5 weeks. I next asked him..since it's a VX-3i and no longer listed..would it be repaired or replaced.

Again..he didn't know. He didn't know anything at all. Completely useless conversation. He is a warrenty service tech...not just someone who answers the phone. He is SUPPOSED to be able to answer questions.

I'm not impressed in the least. I learned more about the optics business in a 20 minute phone call with Vortex during one of my returns for service. Leupold..lol.

I can't believe Leupold got the reputation they have with service this lousy. Surely not.

I'll update more as this disaster unfolds..but so far..this experience isn't a good one, and I'm going to think twice before I buy another Leupold.

I sent two Leupold scopes back in the last couple years.
One an old gloss LNIB .22 rimfire, that had never been mounted (it had a rattle, inherited it).
The other a new VX3i (some crud visible inside).

In both instances I was told 5 weeks.
Got back in half that time.

That's what I'm hoping for. I'd like to have the scope repaired, not replaced. I don't like the "equivalent" currently in production.

I understand why they would overestimate return times...after all, that's how Scotty got his reputation as a miracle worker! (Star Trek reference for those who don't know)..but still.

Vortex, I think, has them beat already for service. Of coarse..I've used to more already..which also says something about their products...

I'll update

Welp, nother small snag......they did send UPS but its sure post which means usps handles final delivery, which should work right?
Well, kinda......unless its changed, "final" delivery starts in the Richmond CA container yard, so i might not get the scope back for a month or more.......but hoping they changed it so they at least bring it to Honolulu.

Fast forward to a few days ago when the rifle came back from the factory after a stock replacement. I sighted the gun, shot a couple groups, or tried to.

I hate to muddy the water but it could just as easily be the stock. It’s the only thing that has changed.

I just today got an m8 fixed 6x off flea bay. It's destined to end its days riding a 96 mauser in 6.5x 55. It should make a good rig for antelope to elk. My only other leupy is a 2x7 that was on the mauser but is now on a savage 23b 25-20. It just sorta fits there. Ya know? It went back to the mothership in Oregon once a fee years ago. It just didn't act right. It's mo bettah now.

Ive got a Leupold mark ar that @Skylerbone gave me ridding on my Meximauser in .257, while not exactly classic (oh but its mounted in classic Tasco rings and rail!) it fits the rifle well and works great. I considered stealing that scope for the 7-08 while the 3hds out, but I had the Primes on hand.

Speaking of, got a box headed your way shortly.
Ok cool, thanks. Been looking for that 243 brass I'd give you but can't find them, was like 100 new hornady and 50ish once fired. I may have given them away and forgot, think I'd remember if I sold them lol.

Did you see some of the closeouts euroopitcs has, think they had uso scopes for $300-$400 and some other good deals on scopes.

Thanks, ive been trying not to look:p

Ive spent time behind both the ts12 and 25 and they are Both really good scopes for what they are going for. If i didn't just buy that Arken id probably grab a 25

Several of my rifles wear fixed power Leupold scopes. One FX 6x42 has endured about 750 rounds on a .300 Win mag that weighs eight pounds scoped. Never encountered any problem with fixed power Leupold scopes. Can't say the same about Leupold variable power scopes.

I hear you, I sent a vxii 3x9 and a m8 2x pistol scope in within a Couple days of each other. They sent me a new 3x9 within a week. Now been 6 months waiting for a new M8.

Patience is not one of my virtues, particularly in this case, with a company like Leupolds and its reputation. It's been a month since I've shipped the scope..3 weeks since they claimed to have received it. The dude told me 5 weeks. The only communication I've gotten from them was the email that they got it..while I was on the phone with them. Not a peep since.

Still..I'll give them their two more weeks...before I blow my top...
Still think it's just plain outrageous it would take them so long to even look at it...and no way can they be that busy..unless they have so many returns..that perhaps their legendary reputation is false...

Either way..they have already failed in epic misery as far as service goes. Vortex stakes them big time I'd this department.

More to follow as it develops....
