Another Shot Shell Reloading Question

Is it worth it to reload Shot Shells?

I have been shooting 12ga. for ever and buy the cheap Remington shells or whatever is on sale. Now my wife has gotten interested in Skeet and we purchased a 20ga. for her.

I purchased some 20ga Winchester AA's this afternoon at Wal-Mart for $7.59 a box. I am sure that prices will continue to climb.

I haven't started doing my homework yet on the price of componets but just want some ideas from the ones that know.

It is now. Wads are $75/5000 or so, hulls don't know usually 2¢ each, powder is $100-130/8# keg. Shot is the most expensive. I get it cheaper with my dealer discount but think retail is around $50/25lb.

I load 20ga for about $4 a box.

Last I checked 25# lead shot was going for $31 at Sportsman's Warehouse.

How long ago was that? The SW in Green Bay, WI was $49.95/25lbs a month ago. $31/25lbs is less than my dealer cost.

can I load both 20 and 12 ga on the same Machine? I am looking at a used MEC right now that is set up for 20ga.

How much are you going to shoot. Are we talking 10 cases a year or 100, makes a big differance. If you are a high volume shooter, yes you can save some money, but if you are talking about 10 cases a year, it may be better to bite the bullet and buy a years supply when you find a good deal. I have loaders for both, but haven't used them in a while. Just can't justify it with lead at the prices it is and I have no desire to make my own shot. I shoot about 7-8 cases a year for trap and sporting clays, I just buy factory when it is on sale. When you find a good deal and you think you should buy more, do it. with the way things are going, you will be glad in the end.

A MEC reloader is gauge specific. You will need separate reloaders for 12 and 20 gauge shells.
