Another SP101 with Badger grips

I've had my SP101 since '94 or '95. All that time it has worn a Hogue grip. I went shooting last week and the grip started to tear. It's basically rotten. I decided to give Badger grips a try. I ordered up a boot grip and got it a few days ago. I can see why everybody raves about them. The fit and finish is second to none. I was concerned about loosing the pinky, but can see that they were designed that way for a purpose and it works great. I took it today and shot some full tilt magnums out of it. Sure, my hand took more of a pounding from the wood compared to the old rubber, but nothing to break out in tears about....The boot grip and a Galco speed paddle make for a pretty compact CCW piece.

Looks great! I have a 2.25 DAO also, just cant tear myself away from the Crimson Trace grips. I love my rubbers on my 357 snubbies.

i have thought about putting the Badgers on my SP101 but had concerns the grip angle would change from the stock configuration. it looks different, maybee my eyes playing tricks. the stock grips feel great to me but arent that attractive. how do the Badgers compare with stock in terms of your point of aim? P.S. your Sp looks great. i like the darker grips on a stainless gun.

I've got a 2 1/4" 357 with Hogues wood grips and a 3" 9mm with Hogues rubber grips that I'm going to try with some Butler Creek boot grips-cheap. If I like "grip angle", I'm going to try the Badgers-thanks for the pictures

That's just beautiful. I like everything you have in that combination, the gun, the grips, and the holster all look terrific together.

You are correct, the Badger grips does change the grip angle. Honestly, they felt weird when I first put them on. Losing my pinky around the grip felt very out of place. After I studied how griping the gun let my pinky curl around right under the bottom of the grip and kinda form a cradle for the bottom to rest in I appreciated the design. When shooting with both hands, the fit is about perfect. Everybody that has held the gun had had the same first impressions...After a couple of days of holding it, wearing the gun in a holster, and drawing from a holster. I like it and appreciate the design. Leaving the bottom portion of the grip off does wonders for concealment and comfort.

Very sharp rig there ... personally, I like curling my pinky finger under the grip like a baby Glock. Holster looks sharp too!

Whatever caused the Hogue grip to "rot" and "tear" was almost certainly the result of a chemical reaction to some type of solvent. Since they are essentially a Neoprene compound which is resistant to practically everything I can't even imagine what would attack that material. I have and still use Hogue grips that are approaching 30 years old and I have never seen the material they use "rot" or break down in any way. Do you remove the grips when you clean the gun? What do you use? I believe that Hogue would be interested in what you have described.

I don't doubt that the "rot" and "tear" was cause by the result of a chemical reaction to some type of solvent. If it was, I'd guess it was Hoppes, since that is about all I use. If it was, it was my fault. No, I don't remove the grips and never expected the solvent not to damage them overtime. It took 15 years to do it. I'm not complaining. That seems to be a pretty good lifespan for abused 15 buck grips....I'm in no way pointing fingers at Hogue's product. It's a good one. I just wanted something different and finally had a reason to try it.

I'm a huge fan of Badger grips. I have them on my several of my J frame revolvers.

Very nice. I like the look of Badger grips, and intend to get some one day for the j-frame I'll be getting for my CCW gun. I wouldn't mind an SP-101, but they're pretty heavy.

Badgers are great !!

I have them on my SP-101, S&W-60, Colt D/S, GP-100, and Sec/Six. As well as several revolvers I've let go over the years. Good grips that look as good as they fit. Jim Badger is an easy man to work with and will do custom mod to most of his grips. I like mine thin so, he does that. He does it well. Never been disappointed.
