I'm considering getting an Anschutz in .22LR. I'm still in the early research phase.

I saw on the Anschutz web site that there's a big difference in weight between the 1416 models, at around 2.5kgs and the 1710 models, which weigh about a kilo more.

The dimensions, barrels, and stock configurations are about the same. Does anyone know what the story is here?

well..the action is completely different, but i wouldn't think it would come to a whole kilo...are you looking at the same stock styles

It's 1416 Classic vs. 1710 Monte Carlo.

1416 Monte Carlo is available, but there's no weight listing for it.

I'm interested in the open sight models, but in each case, there's a heavy barrel version available that weighs .2kg more.

I'm asking about this because I plan on carrying this rifle around in the field. Can anyone tell me whether the increased accuracy or whatever other benefits the 1710 offers are noticeable off the bench?

i just checked the 2008 catalog and i was wrong...the 1710 really is listed as 2lbs heavier

the difference between to two actions is that the 1400/64 sporter is their "moderately price", entry level rifle built to a price point.

the 1700 sporter is based on the 54 action which is what they build their World/Olympic Champiopnship rifles on. it is a larger action (they also offer it in centerfire calibres) and has a faster lock time.

whether you would notice the difference would depend on your skill level

Do you think that's where the extra weight is, in the action? That seems like a hell of a lot of extra metal for a .22.

it is a lot longer action, as it will fit the .222 cartridge, with a boly that is over 6" long. it was machined out of a solid block for world competition where weight isn't as much a consideration as a solid platform to align the bolt and barrel.

plus i would think the roll over Monte Carlo stock adds alot of wood

there you go...i wished i'd thougght of checking there.

for the half pound difference, it's a no-brainer...oh wait, i already have one

i bought the 1712, with match trigger for X-mas

Thanks for the info.

I'm not sure whether I'm allowed to hijack my own thread, but here goes: does anyone have experience with the set trigger that's offered on the 1710?
