We the undersigned American Citizens stand against Wealthy Hollywood Celebrities abusing their status to speak for us. We do not believe that they have a clear understanding of how we live, what we fear, and what we support. We believe that celebrities Martin Sheen, Mike Farrell, Tim Robbins, Rob Reiner, Barbara Streisand, and others with them are using their celebrity to interfere with the defense of our country.

It's up to 11,000 signatures.

Gee, they're rolling right along. It was at 10,5xx when I signed it this morning. Of course, this is all from the VRWC* so it won't carry any weight with the hollyweird types.

* Vast Right Wing Conspiracy

You can stun them with logic but you can't make them think.

I'm sick of listining to these liberal nut cases! I'm sitting right in the middle of all the tree huggers west of the Mississippi :banghead: Problem for them however is that the Bush Administration is not listining. And to think that brave men fought for these types to talk such nonsense...

Monkey man, think you gave me my sig line! Thanks... ;)

Having celebrity doesn't mean you're the smartest in the class or the one we look to for guidance. Just do your acting/singing/entertaining & shut your collective pie holes!

My comment "Entertain me fools, dont speak for me."

Was that too harsh. I just want to be liked....

Just signed the petition. Thanks for letting me know about it. I'm sick to death of celebrities talking constantly like they know "how it REALLY is." Gee, it might surprise them to know not everyone considers them the guru of all things in the universe just because they act for a living. That's called "work?":scrutiny:

Signed it 14,052. When I went to read some of the postings, it was over 14,116.

Wild, I don't want to deny them the right to speak, but why should the words of people that only repeat what others have written and live in a world of pretend be taken with any more weight than the words of the millright or cab driver or oilfield worker or farmer?

"Actors and actresses: Make your movies and rake in your money. Leave the thinking and speaking to those who do it best. (NO, that isn't you.)"

:D

14,333 when I signed.

Do these things even matter for anything?

You can stun them with logic but you can't make them think.
Time for a story about one of my all-time heroes (in this case heroine) Dorothy Parker.

She and her colleagues would meet at the famous Algonquin round table for drinks and laughs. Being writers, one of their favorite games was to shout out a word and see which of the others could blurt out a definition the fastest. Someone shouted "horticulture".

Dorothy said "You can lead a horticulture but you can't make her think."

Ironically, she became a screen writer, she worked on the original "A Star Is Born". Go figure. :scrutiny:

14519- I ENJOYED putting my name on this one. I'm tired of these people, in their ivory towers, speaking for me!!! Anyone forwarded this to other forums?

They have no authority,

They ask for none. They have an opinion, just as we all do. I never have heard an actor say his opinion is better than yours, or that he speaks for you. He's just more famous than you are, so more poeple hear about his opinion.

The 1st Ammendment is as important as the 2nd. Sometimes we need to be reminded to allow other to shout ideas we find repulsive. That's called freedom. To do otherwise is exactly what the anti-gunners are doing. Stomping on other's freedom.

Penn said he was happy that he had a chance ``to pursue a deeper understanding of the conflict'' and hoped that ``all Americans will embrace information available to them outside conventional channel.''
Here is a classic example of Hollyweird. A wife-beater and papparazi pummeler hopes that "all Americans will embrace information available to them outside conventional channel.'' What does he mean by "outside"?!? How does his whining differ in any way from that of Dan Blather or that Canuck:cuss: Jennings on ABC???????*** is he talking about? He beats people that take his picture, and he deigns to lecture people about peace??????:fire: :fire: :fire:

And this petition is nothing more than our way of assuring that we get to be heard vis-a-vis our disgust with these pinko bastards. Now those that choose to sign it need to start backing it up. STOP buying their products! If the come on TV, turn them off. They come out with a movie, don't see it. They hawk a new gadget, don't buy it. Let the filthy rats earn their living in a dinner theatre in Boca Raton working for 50 bucks a show. Maybe they can go to Paris and earn tips doing mime on the Champs Elysee.

Sorry if we aren't famous enough in your eyes to warrant being heard.

Braz, since when is stating MY 1st Amendment Right, somehow taking away someone elses? The Hollywood elite are the ones that are attacking portions of the Bill of Rights, NOT this petition. I'm just letting them know their beliefs aren't mine. If you agree with them let them know it. I DON'T! This petition expresses that belief.

14960. Celebrity and money does now equate to intelligence or common sense. All they're doing is promoting themselves and their warped agenda at the expense of the rest of the citizens. Just remember it's the same Constitution that affirms our rights to bear arms that allows them to spout their drivel.

Heck,

Enjoy your petition. Shout your opinion. I was talking about lines like...

I'm sick to death of celebrities talking constantly like they know "how it REALLY is." (they can't talk?)

Maybe they can go to Paris and earn tips doing mime on the Champs Elysee. (love it my way or leave it)

...Hollywood Celebrities abusing their status to speak for us. (if your famous, you lose your political voice)

It may bug you, it bugs me sometimes, but they have a right to spout their opinion, just as we do. It's called freedom.

Braz, this petition and the posts about it do not say the Hollywood elite should be stripped of any freedom. Why is that not clear to you?

4,000 signatures in one day, this thing is making the rounds prety good. I don't know how much good these things do, but they are a lot of fun to sign and spread around the net.

I don't think they will carry much weight with the actors, but I belive it does a lot of good to remind the companes that make these moves that ultra-left actors are not popular and will cost them money at the box office.

Hopefully they will hire conservative actors or actors smart enough to keep their mouths shut and not piss off the people who pay for it all.

Gee MP,

Because of posts like this last one. Do you folks really want to live in an America where producers only...

...hire conservative actors or actors smart enough to keep their mouths shut...

Come on now. They have a voice, now you have a voice. I support your right to petition, and theirs to spout BS. Why is that hard to understand?

Tom Hanks is a flaming liberal, BUT I still respect him b/c he doesn't engage in the typical diarrhea of the mouth (aka verborhea) of America bashing at the first opportunity.

He still supports his causes and attends his left-leaning functions, but he keeps his mouth shut except to rally support for universally acceptable causes like honoring WWII veterans.

That is the way it should be. He can still find work and has every right to work.

If you take an unpopular stand, expect your employers to pay for it, and by consequence, you will too when you don't get the jobs. This isn't by fiat, but merely the free market at work. I'll boycott Susan Sarandon, Sean Penn, et. al and not watch their TV show (No "The Left Wing" for me, since Martin Sheen is on my sh-- list) or movie because I choose to, not the government. Likewise, I'll encourage everyone I know to do the same. My Right to do so.

If Paul Reubens and Pete Townsend speak out for NAMBLA, expect me to be offended and encourage their potential employers and promoters to think otherwise. That is MY Right

Why is this hard to understand?

Flawless parody.

From Braz's post:
I'm sick to death of celebrities talking constantly like they know "how it REALLY is." (they can't talk?)
Nearly flawless non sequitur.

I tell ya, the talent on this board...
