Anti Gun Groups May Seek Help From Gay Marriage Organizers

I lived in San Francisco for nearly a decade and moved away within the last few years. Even in liberal San Francisco, gays face harassment. As such, many of them are pro gun to be able to protect themselves. Around the time San Francisco tried to pass a law banning guns, the San Francisco Chronicle also ran some articles that discussed this. As such, I see the gay community as a pro gun ally. To extend this logic, I'm inclined to think if those pro gay marriage organizers are out of work looking for a new job, the majority might be inclined to be on the pro gun side. I could be wrong.

To a certain extent. IIRC the motto of the Pink Pistols is, "Armed Gays don't get bashed!" :)

OTOH, a sizable minority, if not the majority, of gays are very "progressive" and share other progressives' views of guns! :uhoh:

As far as those who organized the latest SCOTUS event, and turning their attentions to 2A issues, bring it. :neener:BRING IT. Remember...the ban-the-gun mantra has been the bane of many a candidate...they run from it as if a pole :what:cat. Getting them all on record, their position, then comparing to previous statements, is GOLDEN.
There has been door busting record sales of firearms & all things related, including CCW/CHL, these last few years, which conflicts with white-washed 'polls' on desiring background checks, etc. Add the fact that membership to NRA etc is-a-boom'n. Not can be said of the other side's postitions; people very obviously are voting with their dollars:)

I have a number of LGB friends/coworkers, and most of them support the gun rights cause.

I have a problem with anyone who attacks any of our fundamental rights, and I am also supportive of a person's ability to marry as they choose, and who they choose. The constitutional relevance of such an issue should not be lost on those of us who hold our constitutional rights so close to the heart!

The best way to protect our gun rights is to make sure that we always support the rights of others, even if the people who are exercising those rights may be living a very different lifestyle than we are.

I stand for personal liberties, period. The 1st and 2nd Amendment just happen to be the issue that impact me the most!

While you are correct on paper on that assumption (at least in my opinion), I must admit that I place this in a category of "missed opportunities". Many of the LGB people I know are fiscally conservative, strong on family values, and against a lot of the welfare-state politics that have permeated progressive culture in recent years. And, as I mentioned before, many of them are also pro-gun (or at least not anti-gun). But, if you are gay, odds are strong that you've aligned yourself with the liberal left simply because they were the only side that was supporting that cause for the longest time (and if you are gay/lesbian you can bet that equal rights issues are almost certainly more important to you than most other issues).

So, this is where I see us gaining ground by being a bit more progressive as gun owners… If we collectively support the liberties of others (even liberties that were only really historically recognized by the left), we might soon find that we have supporters we never knew we had!

While something to keep an eye on, my personal feelings are that the younger generation who support gay marriage is also the SAME younger generation that is increasingly arming themselves. While many lump such "progressive" causes together, there's a good many of us out there who have no issues with any two people in love getting married that still very strongly support the right to bear arms. To assume that those who support gay marriage will also likely support gun control is making a pretty big, and unless I'm mistaken, largely unsubstantiated assumption. Many in my generation, at least I feel, embrace freedom of all kinds, ranging from fewer 2nd Amendment restrictions, supporting gay marriage and legalization or marijuana and generally just frown upon government intrusion. The old standards of red and blue, conservative and liberal, etc are falling apart in place of people who study issues and nit necessarily party lines.

There's a world of difference between allowing somebody else to do something you don't care about, and TAKING something from people AT GUNPOINT.

Throw in the UTTERLY impotent (non) reaction of the Federal government to the growing numbers of domestic jihadist attacks, and they've got a HARD row to hoe. The opinion polls back that up.

Convincing people to LET savages murder them is a REALLY tough sell.

I know we are not allowed to talk about liberal, conservative, Democrat, republican etc., but one needs to open their eyes and see the tactics used by certain groups for certain causes. There is little debate on the actual issue its abbout demonizing the opposition.

Regardless of your opinion on gay marriage, the tactics used were to label anyone who disagreed as haters, homophobes, discrimintors etc. It backfired, but they tried to detroy a restauraunt chain and labeled the company CEO as a bigot spewing "hate speech" for saying "I believe in traditional marriage".

All you need do is look at this presidency, and anyone who disagrees in any way is "racist". This tactic is used for every issue with these people.

Anyone who defends himself, police or citizen, with deadly force is biggot an racist if the offender is the wrong color.

The Dukes of Hazzard are now racist biggots because the Confederate flag means something different to them.

They have blamed talk radio and the Tea Party for every killing that made national news, and though not a single incident can be linked.

So be prepared. The reason they are conferring with this activist group is to come up with talking points, lies and labels for everyone to repeast in unison to make demons out of gun owners like they have done with police officers. They've already tried make us haters of children and blame us in others ways for mass killings, but they could never make that one stick, so my guess is that they will go the hatred, racist/homophobe route, and simply sift through news story and only report the ones where a minority or homosexual was killed by a gunowner, and make it appear as though they are the only people getting shot, and making all gunowners out to be racist homophobe haters. think about the initail reports about George Zimmerman, whose name fooled them into reporting it as racism, before they realized he was hispanic, yet they stuck with the narative by referring to him as a "white hispanic".
