I can't say i will always see everything going on around me, but I really try. Once someone is that close it would be hard to defend yourself, that is why you must be aware of your suroundings. If you are surprised by an attacker the attacker has the advantage, being aware and prepared turns the tables over to your advantage. A lot of people walk around oblivous to what goes on around them, robbers can see and recognize this as part of "victim selection." I truly believe a robber is much less likely to chose as a potential victim someone who is obviously aware of their surroundings. Jim.

In general, it would be illegal and or unethical to shoot someone who is simply stealing a purse.

In general, it would be stupid to stand around and wait long enough to discover the exact intentions of a knife wielding mugger.

Immediate action when facing a weapon is not immoral, it's common sense.

Drop the purse or shoot the guy, both are morally OK.

One of those men was a wo-men

don't think we have any reason to believe that the perpetrator did not intend to harm the victim - the only reason he ran off was because the two fine young men intevened.
The interview I saw with the "Heroes" was obvious to the most casual observer. She stayed to help Ms Braun, he ran after the perp and encountered him crouching behind a car. The perp flashed his blade and our hero did the Chicago two step, backing away, until he "lost sight of the perp"
He then heard a car "peeling out". He then returned to accolades.
Maybe I'm just grumpy but Clint, the Duke and 007 would've come back with the perp by the scruff.

There is just too many "maybes" here. Maybe the perp would have used the knife on her. Maybe if she had a gun, she would have been able to use it. Maybe if she was more alert, she could have done something to prevent the attack. Personally, I have no desire to depend on "luck" to avoid serious injury or death. In this day and age, people just have got to learn to get the "maybes" out of their lives.
