The following delusions are typical of the disease:

1) The NRA has, or can reasonably be expected to have, magical powers. If anything anti-gun happens anywhere in the world, it's the NRA's fault.

2) I demand effective political lobbying and support of pro-RKBA candidates. However, it is totally unacceptable for the NRA to solicit funds for this purpose. Also, I am far too traumatized and helpless to call a 1-800 number and get put on the "no mailings" list.

3) Grandiose schemes are better than practical realistic schemes. Instead of trying to defeat AWBII or sue the mayor of New Orleans or restore handgun ownership in D.C., the NRA should be spending all its resources to establish my right to own and fire 16" naval guns in my suburban back yard.

4) Working step-by-step toward a long term goal is an unacceptable compromise. When I set out to go from New York to LA, I demand to get there instantly. If I have to pass through any point in space between my origin and my destination, that's "compromising with spatial reality." When I set out to lose 50 pounds, I take the attitude that losing 15 pounds first is "compromising with obesity." When I build a house, it has to get built all at once, in one move. Building a foundation first is just "compromising with structural necessity."

5) The NRA is secretly supporting the Brady Campaign because, after all, if there were no anti's, the NRA would have nothing to do. Except, of course, the training courses and competitions and safety standards and range certifications and instructor credentialing and all the other non-political activities that constitute over 90% of NRA resources.

6) Back in the year 300 BC, the NRA took a position that I don't agree with today.

7) I read something on the Brady Campaign website that convinced me to withdraw my support from the NRA. I believe everything I read on the Brady Campaign website.

8) The NRA is too moderate: they need to take a more extreme position. However, I object to the extreme language in their mailings: when they talk about the UN or the latest anti-gun legislation, they need to use more moderate language.

9) The NRA is racist. Michael Moore said so on Oprah, and I saw a cartoon on an anti-NRA site that showed the gun banners in poor lighting, and in my college Political Correctness class I was taught that poor lighting is a racist code for minorities.

10) The NRA is really just a front for the Republicans. If all they cared about was gun owner rights, they'd be endorsing prominent Democrats like Hilary, Schumer, Kennedy, Fienstein, and so on. The fact that increasing gun control is actually part of the Democratic party platform should not prejudice the NRA against Democrats.

11) The NRA is really just a front for the big business gun manufacturers. Even if anti-gun lawsuits drive all the retailers and manufacturers out of business, that won't affect me. I reload, cast my own bullets, make my own powder from urine and charcoal, and manufacture all my own guns from iron I smelt in my garage. I don't need those stinking big-business gun companies around, and neither does anybody else. Being able to actually buy guns and ammo in stores legally has nothing to do with my right to keep and bear arms.

12) The NRA should advocate violent overthrow of the government if any law even slightly infringing RKBA gets passed, because the anti's use of incremental strategy will eventually triumph and totally destroy RKBA. At the same time, the NRA should never use an incremental political strategy because as we all know, using an incremental strategy always results in defeat.

The NRA backs SuperNICS (H.R. 297: NICS Improvement Act of 2007)

Call them and find out out for yourself.

I support the NRA and other 2A groups....each have their pro's and cons.

While I believe that the vast majority of the work that the NRA is very positive there is still a lot of room for improvement. How many folks have complained about the waste of their membership dues on the perpetual flood of garbage offers that fill the mail from them....personally I wish they would send me nothing more than the occasional mag..if that even and reapply that money to legislative efforts and sponsoring events that help introduce the next generation to the sport.

Asterisk:
What exactly does superNICS do?

By the way, the NRA does provide tremendous support for youth shooting programs.
