I found this: "ASM = Armi san Marco
Italian maker active in the 1970's & 80's
They made thousands of replica revolvers.
There were and are other Italian makers.
Several are still making replica revolvers.
More replicas have been made than any Colt or Remington originals ever made.
ANY BP firearm marked "Italy" or "Black powder only" is a replica.
Value of the ASM brass framed pocket .31's is in the $125.00 range if in exelent condition."

I can remember seeing ads for those and other black powder derringers in Guns and Ammo magazine many years ago.

Yep, first thing I thought of, that's it's not really an "antique". ASM made my CVA 1858 Remington, purchased in 1986. Still, even more bizarre to find a "faux" old-timey gun in a book than it would be to have found a real one..

Someone had visions of standing in his library in his period correct smoking jacket getting the drop on the nefarious Moriarity.

I bought some used books from the NRA Whittington Center yesterday. All I got were used books with no guns. :(

So in short a fake antique gun was put in a fake book,

Ok. But the gun is not worth much (and neither the book.)

Bet the cops still destroy it.

Should have been a copy of 'Colt On The Constitution, Higher Law And Irrepressible Conflict'

Dixie Gun Works had, and maybe still sells, book-shaped gun boxes suitable for a derringer sized pistol. The title on the one I had was "Mississippi River Law", in a nice red leather binding.

Would love to believe this story.

Need to see more/better photos.

I think its Photoshop?

lol! :d

This actually took place in Indiana. It's in the Chicago media because Valpo is part of "The Region"...that part of Indiana that listens to Chicago radio, watches Chicago TV, speaks with Chicago accents, and support the Chicago Bears...and in general looks to the northwest for its identity rather than south where the "real" Indiana is. Also the area was populated very differently than the rest of Indiana which is people up from Kentucky.

So, the gun, whatever it is, will be dealt with by "Indiana Methods". Probably end up in an auction or something.
