They’re coming outta the woodwork now, ain’t they?

I was at the gun shop discussing yesterday’s DC v Heller ruling and the media coverage. I laughed and said I’ll have to see what Keith Olbermann says about it on Countdown tonight (Thursday/26th). I stated that he would probably just ignore it, as he tends not to cover 2nd Amendment issues if they don’t jive with his philosophy.
When Jeanne Assam (the private citizen with a CHP) recently stopped the shooter at the New Life Church (the gunmen is also believed to have killed two people after a midday ceremony at the megachurch and two other people 12 hours earlier at a missionary training school in the Denver suburb of Arvada), you’d think she might rate a spot in his Best Person in the World spot, or possibly with Keith’s views, a spot on his Worst Person in the World segment, but apparently Keith thinks she’s persona non gratis!

Anywho…I was fast-forwarding the DVR and saw absolutely no mention of DC v Heller until (you may want to duct tape your head to keep it from exploding here) he came to his Worst Person in the World segment. For those of you not familiar, each night he names off his 3 Worst Persons in the World, and the “winner” for Thursday was none other than Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia!
Below is copy and pasted from MSNBC’s transcript of last night’s show:
*****************************************************************
But first, time for our number two story, COUNTDOWN‘s worst persons in the world…

And our winner, Justice Antonin Scalia of the Supreme Court. You‘ve got around 30,000 gun deaths in this country per year, another 75,000 non-fatal gun wounds, half the suicides are by gun; and this clown and his four colleagues decided that the 32-year-old ban on handguns in Washington, D.C., and the demand that firearms kept in the home be locked or disassembled was unconstitutional based on the Second Amendment. You remember the Second Amendment, “a well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”

Despite years of fog created by the NRA and right-wing organizations, that isn‘t very complicated; for the purposes of forming a state militia, you‘re entitled to keep and bear arms. Obviously, those would have to be the kind of use in arms since 1791, when the Bill of Rights was passed, the musket, the wheel-lock, the flint lock, the 13th century Chinese hand canon. Stuff like that.

Scalia, of course, simply decided that the militia part of the Second Amendment is some sort of quaint anachronism that he could happily ignore. There‘s the beautiful thing about our country, they say anybody can grow up to be a Supreme Court justice. And in Antonin Scalia, there‘s your proof, and tonight‘s worst person in the world!

WOW! With logic like that, one can only assume when the founding fathers penned the 1st Amendment, they also meant that those exercising freedom of speech should do so only with the kinds of devices in use since 1791?
I’m curious to see how Keith is going to produce Countdown using only parchment and a quill pen!

To check out the video, go to:

If that doesn’t carry you directly to the video, try:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3036677/ and look for SCOTUS rules on the gun ban (#2 story in the left column)

‘Course, to counter Keith Olbermann I tape/watch Bill O’Reilly every day, and from yesterday’s show, ya have to give a big “thumbs up” to Megyn Kelly in her analysis of the decision! According to her (and I see it the same way), the vote should have been 9 to 0 in favor of Heller. She stated the 4 justices voting in the minority were really “off the reservation” as they were prepared to hold that the 2nd Amendment only applied to militias. She also stated, “From the beginning of time Constitutional scholars understood this applied as an individual right”.
‘Course, former gun-control advocate Bill O’Reilly stated he felt there was no reasoning with the Supreme Court, and he had only 2 words for ‘em-Hurricane Katrina!
(Bill O’Reilly changed his stance on gun control after he saw what happened during Hurricane Katrina).

And finally...Chicago's Mayor Daly really lost it today! I've watched a few of his video clips, and not only did he completely lose his cool over today's decision, he proceeded (to turn into?) a blathering idiot-I was actually embarrassed to watch him!

BTW...the NRA said today they're filing a lawsuit against the city of Chicago's handgun ban based on today's Supreme Court ruling!

Couldn't happen to a nicer fella...
(unfortunately, he'll be wasting Chicago taxpayers' money fighting this!)

It doesn't matter how many times someone repeats the "collective right" lie, it doesn't become true.

If someone has actually read the opinion, it's really hard to refute with facts, even if they don't like it.

Wow. I really like Keith, he usually seems to have his head screwed on right. But if that's how he really feels, rather than just a script he was reading....I might have to reconsider how smart the fella really is.

Yep, read the document Olbermann... I mean if you can.

One of the Federalist Papers states that if you show up for militia duty unarmed you would be given a firearm and charged for it! Another, Federalist 46, clearly states that the "army" would only be 1% of the population but the "militia" would be many, many times larger A specific number is given, relative to the population in 1776, but I don't have a 1776 census to run the numbers for a modern comparison, but think it would VASTLY outnumber any type of "militia is the National Guard" type argument.

The only reason Olbermann and others say we have a right to own a musket is they choose to live in ignorance, they say it's bliss, I guess I'll never know. The founders clearly intended citizens to own "modern" weapons that could be effectively used (and maintained) by the individual. Like I said there's no chance Olbermann and others would know that because they choose ignorance over the truth.

How can they be upset with Scalia?

He upheld the constitution (sorta, think he forgot the "shall not be infringed" part), it is not the role of the courts to change any portion of the constitution, merely to review situations to insure it is being applied.

As spelled out in Breyer's dissent, they can't understand why "policy" doesn't trump "Constitution," unless of course they disagree with the policy conclusion. ;rolleyes;

30,000 gun deaths a year? That's tragic. What I don't get is how one tells if a gun is really dead. Is that when it stops working? Poor guns...

Daley's rant is priceless. I loved his little grin when he came up with his "brilliant" idea on the spot for gun owners needing to pay insurance. Seriously, this guy sounds like a baby who just got his candy taken away.

Obviously, those would have to be the kind of use in arms since 1791, when the Bill of Rights was passed, the musket, the wheel-lock, the flint lock, the 13th century Chinese hand canon. Stuff like that...

nay then Mr. Olberman, ye shall forth with cease and desist disseminating thine drivel over thy electrified web of nets and evil spell-casting box into the homes of the many and shall thus be confined to the nearest corner of street where ye shall play the role of town crier with nigh but thine own voice and handmade sound directing implement.

lest thine choose to distribute thine opines by the pen, then ye shall hand set the type in towne's pressing shop and crank the handle and replenish the squid ink as to replicate thine wares upon which ye may ride them from towne to towne on horseback and charge no more than two Schillings to those whom you wish to inform of your wrongfully brought upon conclusions.

There fixed it for you. People can't be 100% sure if you are using sarcasm or not unless you use a sarcasm smiley.:p

Keith Olberman was a horrible sports announcer. Now he has a Cable TV platform from which to spew his anti-American diatribe. He should do his show from Moscow. People are abusing children every day in this country and KO awards Justice Scalia with the Worst person in the World!! Unbelievable!

Keith Olberman just proves the point that even the ignorant can make it in Television, just like Hollywood.

Thanks for the warning about my head exploding, it almost did until I remembered we have people like Glenn Beck on TV too. :D

You're kidding, right?

Even my 14 year old son told me recently, "Dad,Keith Olbermann's the biggest gun hater in America isn't he?"
The man is a pure ,raving anti-gun lunatic.
Case closed.

In the middle of all his crying he actually made a good point about how the politicians and the elite make seperate rules for themselves. Wonder how many armed security personnal Daley has around him at any given time.

How about just one of Mayor Daley's antics about two-three years ago?
Chicago's Mayor Daley secretly destroyed the runway at the small airport in downtown Chicago, know as Meigs Field.

There had been some sort of dispute with the City Council and instead of gaining approval to close the airport for another project, Daley's "Bulldozer Brigade" covertly went onto the runway at about 0300, chopped it up and made it unuseable.

About two days later, the various aircraft owners received permission from the FAA to take off from a parallel taxiway.

SDDL - thanks. :)

IO, i'm a pilot too. we all remember that day all too well. he did it on April Fools day too so people reading the articles would think it was a joke. this of course, after he gave his word to the FAA that Meigs would be untouched as a condition of new funding for O'hare. Meigs may have been a small field bu it was an aviation icon on this country. i vowed to never go to Chicago EVER until someone takes the reins in that town and makes things right.

Bobby

Thanks for posting that link to the video. Keith Olbermann is a disgrace. I wonder how many of these so called "celebrities" have guns for protection but dont think the average American is smart enough or priveleged enough to own one.

Scalia, of course, simply decided that the militia part of the Second Amendment is some sort of quaint anachronism that he could happily ignore.

What happened to the "living document" diatribe, that it means whatever we want to interpret it to mean? Well, now we've interpreted it to mean an individual right to self-defense. I guess they don't like their own medicine.

So Scalia is worse than Kennedy in Olbermans eyes since Scalia went with the Constitution. But Kennedy is a hero since he voted that Louisianna can't execute a sick twisted child rapist....

I guess we can see where the left places it's priorities.
