So here I was drinking my coffee and browsing Youtube and came upon "Anvil Shooting". An anvil has an oval depression in its base, and these guys fill that up with BP, cover it, and set the anvil upright on another anvil. Then they set it off and launch the anvil high into the air. Has anyone out there done this?

Yep, used to do it every 4th of July at black powder shoots. would put a bead of wet clay around the depression to make a seal, fill with black powder, put in a fuse, set other anvil on top, press down to seal on clay, light fuse, get back, and as you say almost put in orbit. Have to keep spectators away though, when anvil comes down, makes a heck of a depression in the ground. always comes down close to where launched if set on other anvil square, a blast to do, but use up a pound of powder in a hurry.:)

Caught a TV program few years back on that. Was a competition, on highest launch and closest landing, from point of launch, landing in a circle laid out on the ground.

If you've ever had to be wary of falling anvil(s)....................................
you might be a redneck

I watched one show where they were using peanut butter as the sealant. Easier to get than the clay and seemed to work as well.

There is a good video on Utube of a citizen filling an old lawn mower with explosives ( the stuff that Cabellas sells to shoot at ) and then proceeded to pump rounds at it. Blowing it finally up, then the dummy screaming "It blew my leg off!!!
Luckily he did not get killed, however an amputated leg is a life altering event, specially for a young person.
Some people just trying sooo hard to weed themselves out of the human gene pool.
If you have no knowledge of setting explosive charges, don't do it.
Cabellas explosive targets are safe if used according to instructions.
